2016 LA Senate race: on Foreign Policy

Foster Campbell: Keep allies involved, but heed advice of military experts

Q: Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent hostile governments from possessing a nuclear weapon?

A: Yes. I believe our allies must have more skin in the game and be more accountable to fighting conflicts in their regions of the world. Regardless of my personal opinions, on matters of National Security, I would always heed the advice of experts in the intelligence community, and our military leaders.

John Neely Kennedy: Radical Islamic fundamentalists despise our core values

September 11, 2001 reminded Americans and Louisianans of who we are. It fully opened our eyes to the threat of violent, radical Islamic fundamentalists. We face extremists who advocate for the destruction of America and despise the core values for which we stand. Today we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, central fronts in the fight against Islamic fundamentalism, but the threat is global. Our enemy does not think in terms of borders and pursues a fanatical quest to destroy America and our allies and suppress the world under a radical Islamic government.

However, our broken leadership in Washington has not come together to face this threat. Congress has played politics with our national security. John Kennedy believes we need a new approach that can unite America and its allies and use all our tools and innovative approaches to protect and defend America. As State Treasurer, John called for the divestment of public money from U.S. or foreign businesses with links to terrorists.

John Fleming: Defund the Syrian refugee influx

Fleming says he's never been a go along to get along guy in Congress. "I'm an outsider. [Former House Speaker] John Boehner put me on his black list in the House of Representatives. He tried to stop me from raising money to support my campaign. And why? Because I didn't go along with his go along to get along ideas in Washington. As a result of that, I co-founded the House Freedom Caucus," said Fleming.

He says the House Freedom Caucus initially succeeded in stopping some bad legislation but it soon became obvious that more had to be done. "We tried to move leadership in the right direction. When my colleagues and I could not get them to move in the right direction and stand up against the Obama agenda: repeal Obamacare, defund Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, defund the Syrian refugee influx. We just had to make a change," said Fleming.
