Eric Greitens in 2016 MO Governor's race
On Government Reform:
Cut red tape, cut back regulations
Missourians are fed up with career politicians' failures. They want a Navy SEAL and conservative outsider who has never run for office to get us back on track. When I'm governor,
I will cut red tape, cut back regulations, sign right-to-work, end tax credit bribery, reform the tax code and end programs that encourage dependency instead of lifting people out of poverty.

On Gun Control:
Protect our freedoms, including the Second Amendment
As a conservative outsider, my priorities will be jobs, education and restoring trust in our government. Missourians are desperate for quality jobs because politicians have let them down.
I will enact ethics reform to end the culture of corruption and protect our freedoms - including the Second Amendment. As a Navy SEAL, I know how vital gun rights are to our security.

On Immigration:
Gave examples of Muslim immigration that has been positive
Two members of the audience expressed the view that the Koran teaches that all lax Muslims and non-Muslims are heretics and unbelievers that should be put to death.
Instead of endorsing a ban on admitting Muslims, the candidate gave examples of Muslim immigration that has been positive. "In the aftermath of the war in Bosnia,
I participated in relief efforts over there and got to know Muslims and Christians," began Greitens. "Which leads me to ask this question. Outside of Bosnia, where is the greatest concentration of Bosnians? Answer, south St. Louis.
Some are Christian and some practice Islam." "Some 70,000 Bosnian refugees came and they have revitalized parts of south St. Louis city and county bringing an entrepreneurial spirit that creates jobs," explained Greitens.

On Civil Rights:
Anti-gay "religious liberty" amendment threatens jobs
Eric Greitens now stands alone on SJR 39, at least among GOP candidates for governor. Greitens came out against the controversial constitutional amendment that would legally shield people from selling services to same-sex couples.
The state Senate has approved the proposal, and the Republican-led House is now considering it."I don't believe this legislation is the right approach," Greitens said in a statement. "I oppose SJR 39 because I believe that while it is
well-intentioned, it could unintentionally threaten our economy and job creation. Here in Missouri, we are already 47th in job growth and 42nd in wage growth. We simply cannot afford more policies from Jeff City that have the potential to kill jobs."
His three rivals for the GOP nomination -- Peter Kinder, Catherine Hanaway and John Brunner -- have all come out in support. Chris Koster, the presumptive Democratic nominee for governor, also opposes SJR 39.

On Drugs:
Supports legalizing medical marijuana for kids with epilepsy
Q: "Why is alcohol and packing firearms legal when recreational marijuana is not, given the potential for medical benefits and tax revenues?"
A: Greitens said, "It is simple, there is no stoned path to prosperity." On medical marijuana he said Missouri must be a compassionate state and help children with epilepsy.

On Abortion:
Every life is precious; defend & promote life
TOGETHER, WE CAN PROTECT LIFE. I believe that every life is precious. I am pro-life, and I very strongly believe we must promote life, defend life, and that in a free society,
no person should have their tax money taken from them, and spent on organizations like Planned Parenthood, that engage in activities that are, quite simply, barbaric.

On Budget & Economy:
Government over-regulates, over-spends, & over-reaches
WE DESERVE EXCELLENT GOVERNMENT. When government over-regulates, over taxes, over spends, overreaches--it hurts our businesses, damages our hospitals, injures our middle class, and holds back those struggling
to make it into the middle class. It makes life difficult for our teachers, and it threatens our freedom and our prosperity. We must eliminate burdensome regulations that are destroying jobs right here at home.

On Crime:
Get first responders needed training, equipment, & support
POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS NEED OUR SUPPORT. I believe police officers and firefighters should be honored for the hard work they do. They deserve to be led not by lawyers, but by leaders; and
I pledge to be strong for those who are always on call for us. As Governor, I'll make sure that they have the training, the equipment, and the support that they need to do their job.

On Education:
Strongly oppose Common Core; no bureaucrats in charge
WE CAN IMPROVE EDUCATION FOR ALL MISSOURIANS. I believe every child in Missouri has the right to a first-rate education. Too many Missouri children and parents are trapped in failing schools. I will lead efforts to provide more choices
and opportunities for kids who need it most. I strongly oppose "Common Core" and believe local parents and teachers--not Washington bureaucrats--should be in charge of our children's education.

On Environment:
EPA overreach hurts family farms
FARMERS NEED A LEADER. I believe the federal overreach from agencies like the EPA is hurting family farms.
I will fight against these crippling regulations, and always side with the hard working farmers of Missouri.

On Government Reform:
Ban gifts from lobbyists; close revolving door; limit terms
WE MUST END THE CULTURE OF CORRUPTION. I believe that career politicians have turned Jefferson City into a corrupt, do-nothing embarrassment.
I will clean up the mess by banning gifts from lobbyists, closing the revolving door between legislators and lobbyists, and applying term limits to every statewide elected official.

On Gun Control:
Defend right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms
THE SECOND AMENDMENT IS CLEAR. I believe we must always defend the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
I am a life member of the NRA and a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.

On Homeland Security:
Make Missouri the best state in America for veterans
OUR VETERANS DESERVE BETTER. I believe big government is failing our veterans.
As Governor, I will make it my mission to make Missouri the best state in America for veterans to live, work, build businesses, and raise their families.

On Principles & Values:
Protect the religious liberties of all Missourians
PEOPLE OF FAITH ARE UNDER ATTACK.
I believe we must protect the religious liberties and the beliefs of all Missourians.

On Tax Reform:
Simplify the tax code; close special interest loopholes
IT'S TIME TO SIMPLIFY THE TAX CODE. I believe Missouri's tax code is too complicated and is rigged to help special interests.
It's time to level the playing field for middle class families by reforming the tax code and closing special interest loopholes.

On Welfare & Poverty:
Current welfare system is broken; it traps people in poverty
WELFARE NEEDS REFORM. I believe welfare must be reformed so that every person has a chance to live a life of dignity, purpose, and meaning.
The current system is broken, and instead of lifting people out of poverty, it too often traps them in it.
