Support giving illegal immigrants a path to citizenship
The four Democratic candidates for US Senate in North Carolina disagree on what to do about immigrants who are in the country unlawfully.
Deborah Ross of Raleigh and Chris Rey of Spring Lake said at a Thursday evening televised debate they would support legislation that would give these immigrants a path to citizenship.

and business leaders and aggressive hands on approach to redevelopment.Chris expanded town services to include a new business incubator, and workforce development programs. His efforts have already seen results with new businesses attracted to the
town, a multi-million dollar mixed use development along the town's main corridor, and the replacement of one of the town's most blighted mobile home neighborhoods with new Green-certified low-income housing.

Read with the Mayor: volunteer program at grade schools
Chris Rey has quickly become a recognized leader on education issues: Soon after his election as Mayor he began his "Read with the Mayor" program that has organized over
150 volunteers to read to grade school children for an hour each week to encourage early grades literacy.
He was recently appointed to the board of the North Carolina Public Schools Forum, which started the national recognized Teaching Fellows program, the North Carolina Afterschools Program, and the Educational Policy Fellowship.
He also serves on the board of the Fayetteville Tech Foundation, which raises money to keep the community college affordable and teaches criminal justice classes at the University of Mt. Olive.

The Rey campaign already has a campaign logo and a slogan ("Believe"), a website and a professionally produced launch video. The video is called "The Kiss" in reference to a kiss Rey's grandmother gave him the moment he was declared the
winner in his first mayoral election in 2011, he said. "She's gone now, but Nov. 8, 2016, which is Election Day next year, would have been her 84th birthday,"
Rey said on the video. "So it is with the memory of my grandmother in my mind and heart that I announce my candidacy for the United States Senate in the great state of North Carolina."
"Faith, family, service--that is what animates my life and gives it meaning," Rey said in his video.

On Health Care:
Expand Medicaid despite North Carolina's state legislature
Rey says, "Faith, family, service--that is what animates my life and gives it meaning. Just as I was called to service in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just as I was called to service as mayor."
His website says his goals include expansion of Medicaid, which is part of President Obama's health care reform that was blocked by North Carolina's state legislature.

Organized bipartisan "Save the 440th Airlift Wing" coalition
Chris has also been a leader regionally in fighting to keep military jobs in the Sandhills Region. Chris was "instrumental" in organizing the bi-partisan "Save the 440th Airlift Wing" coalition to lobby against cuts at nearby
Ft. Bragg. His efforts earned praise from Air Force Brig. Gen. Jim Scanlan commander of the wing. At the same time Chris has stressed diversification of the area economy to end the over-reliance on the military base.
