2016 ND Governor's race: on Immigration

Marvin Nelson: Refugees stimulate the economy but face hate in the US

When we do studies on the economy in the area where these refugees come, they stimulate the economy. They're good for the economy long term and it's not that long of a term. We don't sit there and there's people again who think we're just pouring money into these people and we're not doing that. They're out there very hard workers. One of the really sad things is with all the hate that's going on. They only came here from a war zone being threatened and now there's people attacking them and these people are starting to fear for their lives again here in the US and somebody's going to attack them somebody's going to shoot them somebody's going to do this and what they've been through this is a real horrific thing for them to experience. We need to stop that. We're supposed to be a beacon of freedom and hope.

Doug Burgum: Consider filing a lawsuit over refugee resettlement

Burgum said, "when North Dakota withdrew from the federal refugee resettlement program, the Federal Government, with questionable authority to do so, selected the non-profit Lutheran Social Services to oversee the refugee program in North Dakota. While I have tremendous compassion for these refugees, this action amounts to federal overreach. Filing a lawsuit against the federal government shouldn't be taken lightly, but it is certainly an option that deserves consideration and debate."
