On Foreign Policy: Opposes withdrawing American participation in NATO

The Glassheim campaign has been working hard to hammer Hoeven on Donald Trump, the GOP's presumptive presidential nominee and a man Hoeven has said he'll "support" but not endorse. That's politically convenient hair-splitting, according to Glassheim.

"Exactly what part of Donald Trump's agenda does Sen. Hoeven support?" Glassheim said in a prepared statement in May. "Does Sen. Hoeven support lowering wages for working families? Does he support kicking 11 million people out of the country and tearing families apart--families who pay taxes and pay into the Social Security system? Does he support withdrawing American participation in NATO and allowing nuclear weapons to proliferate?"

Hoeven's campaign fired back by pointing out Glassheim would support either Bernie Sanders of Hillary Clinton for president--neither of whom were a presumptive nominee at the time--both of whom oppose fracking and would "weaken our Second Amendment rights."

On Environment: $220 million to cities stricken by water contamination

Eliot Glassheim called on Sen. Hoeven to reverse his position on desperately needed aid for Flint, MI [which suffered from widespread drinking water contamination in 2015], by supporting bipartisan legislation to provide $220 million to cities stricken by water contamination. "Senator Hoeven's decision to block assistance to the people of Flint was shortsighted and irresponsible," said Glassheim. "Now, Senator Hoeven has a chance to do the right thing by reversing his position and supporting funds to help solve the water contamination crisis in Flint."

The bipartisan $220 million aid package would tap into the same Energy Department funding Senator Hoeven voted to eliminate in order to provide aid to Flint and other cities [affected] by water contamination.
