Andrew Cuomo: $20B more for increasing homeless services

Each jurisdiction requesting homeless assistance from the state will be asked to design a Continuum of Care strategic plan, which assesses the size and needs of each sub group within the homeless population and identifies what they need. I propose a record $20 billion over the next 5 years to be spent on homelessness. This proposal includes $10 billion for 100,000 permanent affordable units, $10 billion for 6,000 new beds over 5 years, 1,000 emergency shelter beds, and other homeless services.

Sam Brownback: Required work/training improves quality of life

We implemented reforms that said if you have no disabilities and no children at home, you should work or train for work at least 20 hours per week. The results are in and our reforms worked: caseloads are 70% lower today before. Before work requirements, 93% of able-bodied adults on welfare were in poverty. But within a year of leaving welfare, their incomes had more than doubled--an increase of 127% on average.

Doug Ducey: End `grandmother penalty' in foster care compensation

We have to stand up for kids in foster care and that means making sure that no matter the failings of their parents, they and their caregivers have the resources they need. In many cases, a grandmother actually receives fewer dollars to raise her own grandchild, than a stranger would. That's wrong. This session, let's end the Grandmother Penalty and keep more families together.
