On Corporations: Make loans as easy for small business as for large ones

• 55% of Americans work for small businesses
• 50% of small businesses don't survive more than 5 years. Tax laws make it difficult for many small businesses to survive. While tax breaks and bail-outs have kept many large businesses afloat, small businesses rarely ever receive such help as they work to establish themselves. We can do better.
• 80% of small businesses are turned down for small business loans from banks.
  
  
• Provide tax incentives and reduce required social security taxes to small businesses until they stabilize.
• Improve upon the Dodd-Frank legislation so that small businesses with sound plans can more easily get the loans they need to be successful. As one who has worked through the bank loan process, it is clear that there are too many roadblocks that likely prevent many small businesses from succeeding.

On Education: Reduce size of federal Dept. of Ed.; shift to local schools

1. Increase Education Funding Support From Federal Government: We need to shift the use of more Federal tax dollars toward supporting education.
2. Let Local Educators Determine What To Do With Federal Dollars: The people that best know what is needed for our children is their teachers, schools, and districts.

   On Government Reform: Limit congressional terms & campaign donations

   88% of Utahns want to reduce corruption among elected officials. I am with you! I am not afraid of addressing this problem. Some things I plan to work on to address potential corruption problems in Washington:
   • Create term limits for congress--this is supported by 75% of the American people.
   • Limit campaign contributions from outside a candidates district or State. Gone should be the days when elections are bought by large out-of-state groups.
   • Stop special favors from money churning groups who want to buy our elections.
   • Require more transparency--Far too many people don't trust our elected officials. Requiring better transparency will help address this problem.

   On Social Security: Reduce Social Security taxes on entrepreneurs

   Some ideas I plan to address when I reach the Senate:
   • Provide tax incentives and reduce required social security taxes to small businesses until they stabilize. We have seen many large businesses take root in Utah by providing incentives. Why not do the same for small businesses?
   • Improve upon the Dodd-Frank legislation so that small businesses with sound plans can more easily get the loans they need to be successful.

   On Abortion: I don't want federal funds to pay for abortions

   This is the common sense approach I will take as Utah's U.S. senator:
   • Throw out government shut-downs as a substitute for legislation. We don't elect senators to throw hand grenades into the funding process. We elect them to solve problems by passing legislation. That is what I will do.
   • Push for a full investigation of Planned Parenthood. As a conservative Democrat, I am pro-life. I am as concerned about the accusations as anyone. I don't want federal funds to pay for abortions.
   • Leverage the Hyde Amendment (which requires that no federal funds be used to fund abortions except in instances of rape, incest, or physician certified danger to the mother) and require more detailed evidence moving forward that any federal funding provided to Planned Parenthood is not used for abortions.
   Because many in the country are uncomfortable with Planned Parenthood being supported at all, another option could be to find alternative service providers. Source: Salt Lake Tribune on 2016 Utah Senate race Sep 26, 2015

   On Government Reform: Term limits for members of Congress
