John Carney: Delawareans are willing to chip in and help, if all do

At our budget town hall in Milford, a gentleman stood up and said to me, "As long as government's cutting costs and doing more with less, I'm willing to pay a little bit more. But it's got to be a fair trade."

I heard this sentiment echoed up and down the state. Delawareans are willing to chip in and help with our budget problem, as long as their neighbors are asked to do the same. My budget is built on this principle of shared sacrifice.

Roy Cooper: Common Ground Solutions instead of either/or choices

I call this budget "Common Ground Solutions" because it contains many areas of agreement. In Raleigh, partisan battles, power struggles and lawsuits might grab the headlines, but we have to work together where we can. To look beyond ourselves to see what's right for the state, regardless of who's in power.

That's what the people of North Carolina want us to do, and what common sense demands us to do. So let's get to work. Job recruitment, raising teacher pay, fighting the opioid crisis, and boosting our infrastructure: these are areas where we already agree more than we disagree. These tasks don't come with a party label for a reason. They are priorities we all share.

1. It was to remind those public servants that they worked for the person on the other side of the phone and that they were there, above all, to answer whatever question might come up.
2. South Carolina was never the state it was portrayed to be. It was time for the rest of the country, and the rest of the world, to see South Carolina as she truly is--a state of unlimited potential and unrivaled beauty populated by good, faithful, hardworking people.

The Great State 2019 Plan serves as a Guidepost to remind us that while we gain ground, we cannot continue to ignore the problems that have persisted in our state for decades.

Will we ask ourselves the words in the book of Galatians "You were running so well, who is it that cut in on you? Such distraction does not come from the One who calls you." The day we were elected and chosen, asked by the people of this state to serve them--to be their voices in state government--we were not Called for Politics. We were Called for a Purpose.
