Walt Maddox: Will make workforce training and development his priority

Today, 600K Alabamians are either unemployed or working in jobs that don't match their skills or their needs. Over 100K commute to other states for work. This trend must stop. Without better and higher paying jobs, our schools, health care, roads and bridges will never meet the standard we deserve. We will make workforce training and development the cornerstone of rebuilding our economy to meet the 21st century. We will make college affordable in our state. Tommy Battle: 21st Century Manufacturing Zone Act: 17,000 new jobs

Battle has served as Huntsville's mayor for eight years. Under his leadership, more than 17,000 new jobs have been created for the area, including the addition of Remington Arms Company and Polaris. He has taken a fiscally conservative, results-driven approach to creating new jobs and better opportunities for Alabamians.

In 2016, Battle worked with leaders across the state to support the Major 21st Century Manufacturing Zone Act. Approved unanimously by the Alabama State Legislature and overwhelmingly by state voters, the act gave more authority to local leaders in communities pursuing major economic development and job creating projects.

Chris Countryman: Current minimum wage barely meets worker needs

Alabama citizens all across the state are struggling financially due to wages that are completely unacceptable for today's working class citizens. The current minimum wage barely meets the needs of the average worker and must become a living wage. It is essential that the minimum wage is gradually increased over the next several years so that Alabama citizens can survive and contribute to the economic recovery within the state.
