Steve Barlock in 2018 CO Governor's race
On Gun Control:
Teachers should protect students if there's a school shooter
[In the wake of the deadly Parkland school shooting, gun control was discussed in the 9-person debate: Republican Steve Barlock, co-chair of the Colorado Trump campaign: "I want to see the teachers protect their students at all means,"
he said. Barlock referenced his own experience in a shooting in 1988 and how the teachers and administrators were not around to protect their students in addition to a failed response from police.

On Welfare & Poverty:
Drug testing for welfare recipients is a slippery slope
All seven candidates said Coloradans accepting public assistance should undergo random drug testing.
"If you are on the government dole, absolutely you should subscribe to random drug testing," said Stapleton.
Steve Barlock wondered about marijuana since it's legal. "It's a slippery slope," he said.

On Education:

He strongly supports homeschooling even though his brother is a teacher. "I'm definitely not a teachers' union guy."
He likes apprenticeship programs more than specialty trade schools in higher education.

On Energy & Oil:
Water power, but not wind power
He thinks the next governor should tackle Colorado's dwindling water as the population grows by going to court to fight for water rights.
He also will demand more hydroelectric power and wants to see fewer subsidized wind turbines.

On Gun Control:
100% for Trump unless he rejects NRA
"I'm the only candidate, period, who supports [Trump] 100 percent [and] from the very beginning," he says,
adding, "The only thing that could ever pull me away from Donald Trump is if he pulls away from the NRA."

On Principles & Values:
Statist and nationalist: Colorado and U.S. come first
Barlock also claims support as a pro-Trump "America First candidate" meaning he supports a nationalist agenda.
Running for governor he calls himself a "statist" which means he is "all in for Colorado," and will do whatever is in the state's best interest.

On Tax Reform:
Popular vote on any tax law or subsidy
Barlock wants to "strengthen" TABOR, the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights that requires voters approve any new tax increases. He would run a statewide ballot measure to add voting on tax incentives to that requirement.
If the government wants to give a company a tax break, voters would have to weigh in. "I'm against all subsidies," he says. "If it's a tax break people vote on the taxes. If it's a tax increase people vote on the taxes."

On Principles & Values:
Won't let globalist opponents steal my views
I will release my statements on Colorado issues weekly after the last two major Republican candidates declare.
I will not allow these globalist candidates to lie about their personal views on the issues that Colorado citizens value or let them claim my statements as their own.

On Drugs:
Will follow state law on pot
Donald Trump supports states' rights. Our state's citizens have made marijuana the law. Until a federal judge says that Mr. Sessions is correct and says, "Enforce that law," I will go by our state law, which is voted for by the people of Colorado.
I'm always for the people of Colorado. Donald Trump supports states' rights. So until a higher court comes down and says we have to enforce this, the law is that we have marijuana in this state.

On Energy & Oil:
State should not pick favorites in clean energy
I'm all for clean energy. We are a leader in Colorado. We have great outdoors, and that's what we're all about--keeping our environment clean. But when we have to give tax breaks to companies to come into
Colorado to compete with other people in Colorado, I'm against that. I'm against picking winners and losers, such as solar panels being tax-free in the state of Colorado.

On Immigration:
Hardline against illegal immigration
Stop illegal immigration in this state. I will enforce all illegal-immigration laws, and I'm not for any sanctuary cities--and
I'm not supportive of countries being able to buy property in Colorado that are supposedly sending us refugees

Drain the swamp of Colorado politics
Republican Steve Barlock is best known in Colorado as a former co-chair for Donald Trump's presidential campaign in Colorado. Barlock also served as an alternate delegate for Trump at last year's Republican National Convention. In his announcement, he
billed himself as the only candidate who is "truly loyal to Donald Trump," and promised to "drain the swamp" of Colorado politics. His other plans include making sure the troubled Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) is fully funded.
