Chuck Boyce in 2018 DE Senate race

On Corporations: Small businesses are the job creators in America

Three things Boyce pointed to that he said he wanted the crowd to remember about him were: "I am the son of a Vietnam-era veteran, I am the father of a 14-year-old daughter and I am a job creator here in the state of Delaware."

As things he would like to help fix in Washington, he pointed to failures in the Veterans' Administration that his family dealt with, as well as what he sees as failures in the education system that he has experienced as a parent.

"We need to make sure that our kids are being prepared for the jobs that are actually going to be available tomorrow," he said. He also said he wants to see more emphasis on alternatives to college. "We need to stop demonizing secondary-education options," he said.

"Small businesses are the job creators in America," Boyce said, adding that he wants to repeal regulations that he feels are burdensome to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

On Gun Control: Double headline - Already Done

Candidates Chuck Boyce and Gene Truono addressed 10 questions on a range of subjects. On the issue of gun control, Boyce said, "I will always be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment." He added that "there would need to be some colossal threat to our country" before he would consider "any type of action that reduced our rights under the constitution."

He added that "we need to make sure that we are helping those that need help" and that recent mass shootings were cases of others knowing the shooter was a threat "and said something, and the system failed."

"We have a broken system in background checks," Boyce said, adding that he believes there should be "consequences" for those in various agencies who drop the ball regarding information on potential dangers.

Truono said he also supports the Second Amendment, "and I don't think taking away people's guns will solve this problem. The real issue here, as we've seen, is that this is a mental health issue."

On Immigration: Double headline - Already Done

On immigration, Boyce said the United States "absolutely" needs to have secure borders. "We need to make sure we understand who is coming into our country, and we need to have a merit-based system," he said.

Boyce said he supports President Donald Trump's proposed border wall, as well as "21st-century solutions." He said the wall is going to "cost a lot of money and it's going to take a lot of time, and it's a 6th-century solution to a 21st-century problem."

Boyce also said he believes it is important that immigrants who are here "are going to assimilate into our culture and make sure that they are going to be contributing members of our society."

Truono said, "Let's just be honest-- our immigration system is broken. It takes far too long for people to come into this country legally." He called the issue "a can that Congress has kicked down the road" and said he supports currently proposed comprehensive immigration legislation.

On Civil Rights: Staunch supporter of equality including sexual orientation

I have and always will be a staunch supporter of equality regardless of one's race, gender, age, sexual orientation or country of origin. Our country is founded on the 'preservation of life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness' for all Americans. I will always stand firmly against hate and bigotry because plain and simple it's wrong and that's not what we as a country stand for.

I hope to push for the advancement of civil rights in order to ensure full equality for all Americans. This will help heal the wounds that many communities across our country have felt marginalized by. Our country must fight for all people to better race relations, human rights and ensure freedom of religion for people of faith.

On Drugs: Expand treatment for those struggling with addiction

We need leaders in DC who will push public health emergency funding to the top of their agenda in order to get rid of prescribed painkillers, heroin, and synthetic drugs often sold on our streets.

If elected, I will advocate for immediate funding to the public health emergency fund that Congress hasn't replenished for years. It is unacceptable to me that more than 50,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last year.

I will only support legislation that helps expand access to treatment for those struggling with addiction. I will not give into the notion of simply prescribing opioids to alleviate pain. This mindset has strengthened Big Pharma while taking more American lives, and this pattern of treatment has proven ineffective.

On Energy & Oil: Clean energy jobs outnumber fossil fuel jobs by 3:1

Nationwide, clean energy jobs outnumber fossil fuel jobs by more than 3:1. In particular, the solar industry employed 43% of electric power sector's workforce in 2016. This type of private sector economic boom to our environmental troubles is the type of solution I would foster in the US Senate.

On Environment: Preserve our environment & modernize our infrastructure

Ever since I was a Boy Scout in my youth, I have always been a big proponent of the environment. If elected to the U.S. Senate, I would be a pro-environment activist who will work to preserve our environment through policies that would modernize our infrastructure and economy to respect our waterways while still benefiting our nation's economy.

On Government Reform: Revitalize the people's trust in their elected officials

For far too long our elected officials have remained above the law with a lack of transparency between the constituents they represent. I will actively push for full accountability for all elected officials especially federal office holders.

Career politicians have taken over our government which has led to our further polarized country with divisive party politics.

I fully support term limits for all members of the U.S. Congress and U.S. Senate to rid Washington of career politician and revitalize the people's trust in their elected officials. This will ensure an open dialogue with fresh ideas and perspectives to solve problems that directly affect the American people, and not special interests. Washington needs more rational leaders coming together on common ground solutions to enact policy that betters the everyday hardworking American.

On Immigration: Comprehensive reform including a path to citizenship

Our country has long served as a shining city on a hill. For centuries, people from all over the world have flocked to this land in search of religious freedom, economic opportunity, and liberty. I will actively support comprehensive immigration reform that secures our border, decreases illegal immigration and opens a fair legal process that allows a path to citizenship for law abiding permanent resident immigrants who have been here and lived by our laws and contributed to our society.

We must never forget that America is a country built by immigrants with laws that must be upheld to maintain order. I will always be a proponent of legal immigration in which all immigrants striving to achieve the American Dream know that they can come here only through the legal process by our laws set in place.

On Foreign Policy: UN ideas aren't the US' burden to bear alone

[Citing a Twitter posting]: "At the UN, we're always asked to do more and give more."--Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the UN

@ChuckBoyce Twitter response: "For too long, our country has remained the world police always being expected to clean up all the problems and pay the tab. It's time to make sure all the UN's ideas aren't the United States' responsibility and burden to bear alone."

@ChuckBoyce Twitter response: Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day in which we honor the life of an amazing man who gave a voice to the civil rights movement. On Health Care: Replace parts of ObamaCare with catastrophic insurance
