Gubernatorial campaign websites: on Gun Control

Lupe Valdez: For common sense gun control measures; keep community safe

I am in support of common sense measures that can keep our children and communities safer. We must push for universal background checks, making it a state offense to lie on a background check, and closing loopholes so domestic abusers can't have access to a weapon. We should enact, not simply study "Red Flag" laws, so that law enforcement and families can flag someone who may pose an immediate danger to themselves or others for their access to firearms to be temporarily limited.

Molly Kelly: Advocates universal background checks and more gun controls

I never worried about my children when they went to school. Now, I fear for the safety of my grandchildren. I refuse to wait for NH to suffer through a tragic school shooting. I will work to: Pass universal background checks; Keep children and domestic abusers from getting guns; Keep military-style weapons off our streets; Reinstate the requirement of a permit to carry a concealed weapon; Pass a red flag law; Institute a 48-hour waiting period for all purchases.

Philip Levine: We need gun control reform with a common sense approach

Philip believes it's time to take decisive action to reduce gun violence in our communities and make neighborhoods safe. After the events at Pulse Nightclub and Parkland which took too many lives too soon, we must honor their memories with action.

Keith Stern: Supports 2nd Amendment; but some people will commit crimes

I want to make it clear that I stand behind the 2nd Amendment; we have a fundamental right to defend ourselves against those who seek to harm us, to feed our families and as the Second Amendment states "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." In a free society we must accept that people have free will and sometimes people will commit crimes whether it's using a car, a knife, or a gun.

Mike Parson: For 2nd Amendment rights; keep federal government at bay

Mike Parson is a tireless supporter of our Second Amendment rights and has voted not only to expand the Castle Doctrine, but also to protect our rights from being infringed upon by an overzealous federal government.

Jeff Johnson: Gun control laws only put the guns in the hands of criminals

The U.S. Constitution is unequivocal: "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Self-defense is a fundamental individual right and creating new "gun control" restrictions on law-abiding citizens will only leave guns in the hands of criminals.

Bill Schuette: Proud protector of the 2nd Amendment, NRA rates him "A"

He is an avid hunter and protector of our 2nd Amendment rights. Bill has been repeatedly endorsed by the National Rifle Association and received an "A" rating.

Lori Swanson: Supports variety of common sense gun safety reforms

Lori supports common-sense gun safety reforms. We should ban bump stocks. We should have enhanced background checks. We should allow law enforcement to petition judges to remove guns from people who pose a danger to themselves or others. Public health authorities should be able to study the causes of gun violence, so long as adequate safeguards are in place to protect individual privacy. We must help make our schools safer places of learning for our kids.

Walker Stapleton: Supports 2nd Amendment rights; fight to protect them

The right to bear arms is a fundamental right, enshrined in the 2nd Amendment. It is embedded in the American ideals of self-reliance and independence. Whether used for hunting, sport, or self-defense, Colorado gun owners proudly embody this spirit. Walker Stapleton will protect the rights of law abiding gun owners and fight back against efforts to limit our 2nd Amendment freedoms. Walker supports giving local communities the ability to empower teachers to voluntarily carry firearms.

Yancey McGill: We will not surrender our freedom to bear arms

We will not weaken our right to self-defense or surrender the freedom to bear arms, whether for safety, hunting, or recreation.

I believe in our right to bear arms and strongly support the 2nd Amendment.

Our Constitution acknowledges what most South Carolinians know to be true: We have a God-given right to protect ourselves, our families, our homes, and our property.

As Americans, the Second Amendment is what protects our sacred liberties, and I will fight to help you protect those liberties.

Abdul El-Sayed: No gun possession for convicted domestic abusers

The presence of a firearm in a Domestic Violence situation makes it 5 times more likely a woman will be murdered. In fact, over half of mass shooter incidents involve the killer shooting intimate partners or other family members, including their children. Currently, Michigan law is incredibly weak when it comes to prohibiting convicted domestic abusers from purchasing or possessing guns. Common sense legislation to prevent domestic abusers from obtaining firearms must do all of the following:

Abdul El-Sayed: Take on the corporate gun lobby; enough is enough

Clearly, gun violence is a national epidemic. Enough is enough. Too many elected officials are scared of a corporate gun lobby that is more concerned with making profits for gun manufacturers than promoting responsible gun ownership. I will never take a dime from the gun lobby.
Here are my commitments to make Michigan a safer and more responsible state:
  1. Prohibit the sale or possession of "weapons of war," large capacity magazines, and any modifiers that increase fire rate.
  2. Close background check loopholes.
  3. Include domestic abusers in Michigan's prohibited purchaser provisions.
  4. Require law enforcement to disarm individuals who become prohibited purchasers after purchasing a weapon, being issued a handgun purchase license, or receiving a concealed carry permit.
  5. Reintroduce discretion into the concealed pistol permit process. Michigan is known as a "shall issue" state.
  6. Prohibit the open carry of firearms in public buildings and registered private establishments.

Cary Kennedy: Ban assault weapons; fight the NRA & gun lobby

We lose too many lives to senseless shootings. We are no stranger to mass shooting tragedies here in Colorado. We need to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, domestic abusers, and the dangerously mentally ill, which is why I support common sense restrictions on guns like universal background checks. We also need to keep military-style weapons out of our communities including bump stocks, silencers, and other military style devices that are designed to kill large numbers of people in a small amount of time. My heart is broken for the victims, parents and loved ones of the victims of mass shootings that have terrorized our country. It is time to turn our grief and fear into action. We can and will do more to prevent gun violence in Colorado.

Jared Fisher: Second Amendment represents freedom & our American heritage

I support the Second Amendment. More importantly, I support the rights of an individual to decide whether or not he or she wants to own a gun. That is the essence of the Second Amendment and represents one of the U.S. Constitution's most important themes: Freedom. Our Founding Fathers valued the freedom to speak openly, the freedom to worship, the freedom to have a free press, the freedom to assemble and the freedom to bear arms. As governor, I will not seek to limit the rights of gun owners.

I was taught from a young age to use guns responsibly and respectfully. I was also taught that guns are a part of our American heritage. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are responsible gun owners who participate in hunting and sport shooting. And of course, many choose to own guns as a means of protection for themselves and their families.

Andrew White: Not anti-gun but we need universal background checks

I support the 2nd Amendment. I'm not anti-gun. The terrible events we see on the news should make you wonder how we got here. A tight primary race creates a competition to see which politician can be more "Pro-Gun". The gun lobby birthed its own "litmus" test: you're either pro-gun or anti-gun. I bet most of us are somewhere in between. We need a universal background check law that requires ALL gun buyers, regardless of where they buy the gun, to have a simple background check performed.

Ben Jealous: Wants governor to join multi-state coalition on gun control

TODAY, Thursday, February 22, Ben Jealous, former National President & CEO of the NAACP, called on Larry Hogan to join a recently announced multi-state coalition supporting stronger gun control measures and to refuse support from the NRA. Earlier today, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Connecticut created States for Gun Safety, a coalition of states working to enhance state cooperation to stop gun violence.

Adam Putnam: Expanded concealed weapon licenses program; largest in US

Adam believes the Second Amendment is an inalienable right. He is committed to defending that right from progressive liberals. As Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam expanded the state's concealed weapon license program so it is now the largest in the country. He expedited over 75,000 Florida concealed weapon license applications for active military members and veterans. He believes if you carried a gun in Iraq, you should be able to own one at home.

George Brauchler: Supports guns for self-defense

As great as our Colorado law enforcement officers are, they cannot be everywhere there is evil and danger at the most critical moments. I will not waver on my support of the 2nd Amendment as a means for our law-abiding residents to protect themselves and their families.

Casey Cagle: Expand citizens' ability to protect themselves & families

Our right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in both the federal and state Constitutions, and it is a bedrock of the liberty we enjoy as Americans. Since Lt. Governor Cagle's election, the Republican majority has comprehensively re-written Georgia's firearms laws to expand the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families. Additionally, his continued support of access to outdoor recreation opportunities has helped ensured future generations of Georgians will enjoy hunting, shooting, fishing and other outdoor activities their parents and grandparents cherish. He has also been a vocal supporter of relocating gun manufacturers to Georgia and away from liberal states, creating jobs for our citizens here.

Our state will continue to be eyed carefully by liberal national groups who want to limit our ability to exercise our freedoms. For this reason, we must never stop being vigilant against attempts to restrict our liberties.

Gary Richardson: Completely supportive of the Second Amendment

I am completely supportive of the Second Amendment and what it has to offer to the citizens of Oklahoma, that being the security of knowing they have the right, with appropriate guidelines, to keep and bear arms without being infringed upon. I personally have a concealed carry licenses and I am a member of the NRA.

Mark Green: Strong, unwavering pro-2nd Amendment voting record

Sen. Mark Green (R-Clarksville) was endorsed by the NRA for his strong, unwavering pro-2nd Amendment voting record. Green, who was scored an A+ by the NRA, has been instrumental in the fight for constitutional carry within the State of Tennessee.

"I am grateful for the endorsement of the NRA," said Sen. Mark Green. "As a lifetime member, I'm proud of the work the NRA does to advocate for our rights as citizens. The Second Amendment 'shall not be infringed' on our watch."
