On Crime: Convicts should serve in same state where sentenced

Each state is its own COUNTRY, to be sent to another country to serve one's sentence would be Unconstitutional. It is not Constitutional for one to be sentenced BY THEIR PEERS in one Sovereign State and then have the sentence carried out in another Sovereign State where there are NO PEERS. Then why is it acceptable for a person to be sentenced in Vermont and incarcerated in Pennsylvania or any other State? Each State is exactly the same as a Country and the words are interchangeable.

On Education: Give education control back to the local districts

Education should be locally controlled and should not be breaking the backs of residents. I would work to eliminate the Vermont Agency of Education and use the money in a more productive manner while giving control back to the districts. I would rather see the school districts send representatives to get together quarterly. They can discuss issues such as student to teacher ratio while also looking at the classroom size to be sure that we have an optimum balance between cost and results.

On Education: Technical schools train for well-paying, in-demand jobs

We must encourage our young people to explore skilled labor as a career. People trained in trade skills can earn as much as someone who graduated from a 4 year college. Yet most students are directed towards the 4 year path, where many graduate with heavy student debt and the inability to find gainful employment. We have 16 technical centers and one technical college. Students graduating from these institutions with in demand skills, will have a direct impact on the positive growth of economy.

On Energy & Oil: Goal to convert to 75% renewable energy will hurt Vermont

In order to get to the 75% renewable energy by 2032, a goal set by the Vermont Comprehensive Energy Plan, Vermont would end up with 30K acres of solar fields and 200 miles of wind turbines equaling the destruction of Vermont as we know it! You have had no say! The VCEP states, "Not only can Vermont be a leader in global climate change efforts, but we can do so while increasing our energy security, improving our economy, protecting ratepayers, and reducing total energy costs." At what expense? They are out to destroy the Vermont landscape, ecosystem and your financial stability through a $500,000,000 a year tax on home heating fuel, propane for your hot water and fuel for your cars! The destruction of the Green Mountain State's character, natural beauty and way of life through big government is unacceptable! The Vermont Renewable Mandate must be repealed and replaced with something that makes sense for our wildlife and our way of life.

On Government Reform: Term limits will slow down path to lobbying

I fully support the concept of term limits. Our founding fathers fully intended the bodies of our constitutional republic be comprised of citizen legislators. There is no legitimate reason I can think of that this principle should not apply to the individual States. I am willing to impose upon myself not to exceed 3 terms. I would work with the House and Senate to sign into law, legislation that would prohibit any individual from becoming a registered lobbyist within 3 years of their departure.

On Gun Control: Supports 2nd Amendment; but some people will commit crimes

I want to make it clear that I stand behind the 2nd Amendment; we have a fundamental right to defend ourselves against those who seek to harm us, to feed our families and as the Second Amendment states "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." In a free society we must accept that people have free will and sometimes people will commit crimes whether it's using a car, a knife, or a gun.

On Health Care: Healthcare the community way through medical cost sharing

Healthcare reform must occur. Current system is rigged against the middle class, lining the pockets of the wealthy insurance companies. Now is the time for a new way...an affordable way to offer citizens healthcare. The community way is through medical cost sharing. It removes over billing by insurance companies and is a free-market solution. With a claim system and a price adjudication system bills get reduced keeping costs down. Holding the feet of the provider to the fire to get a fair price.

On Technology: Cut spending by $100M and put half into infrastructure

We need new infrastructure to bring in manufacturing jobs or any type of business or industry. I will set an initial target of $100 million in government spending cuts, half will be used towards road and bridge repairs until that is under control. That doesn't mean we will quit if we reach that target. I will always be looking for every savings possible without affecting essential services.
