Bill Lee:
Don't exclude faith from public life
Religious liberty is non-negotiable. One of the most fundamental Constitutional rights is the right to exercise your faith freely. Too many times, the phrase, "separation of church and state" has been twisted to mean "keep faith out of public life"
or, "leaders should check their values at the door when making decisions about right and wrong." That understanding is a mistake, and as governor, I will work to defend the freedom of every Tennessean to live his or her values.

J.B. Pritzker:
Who needs another rich guy running for office?
Let me address a question I imagine may be on your mind:"With Bruce Rauner as Governor and Donald Trump as President, why do we need another rich guy running for office?"
My answer is that it's a matter of values. About a century ago, my great-grandfather Nicholas arrived in Chicago penniless. He worked hard--but he had help.
A social service agency helped him find a place to live. A good public school helped him learn English. A state university allowed him to get a higher education degree. You can't pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you don't have any,
and this state gave my great grandfather his bootstraps. It's what everyone in Illinois deserves, it's what I've been fighting for my whole life, and it's what I'll be fighting for every day as your next governor.

Gary Richardson:
Freedom to work & worship free of government interference
To me, the word "Liberty" speaks of a state of being free from oppressive restrictions, regardless of who is behind the oppressive conduct. This leaves one with the ability to enjoy that which life has to offer, be it social, political, economical
rights, privileges and/or spiritual. As for government, I will always stand on the side of liberty and work to ensure that Oklahomans have the freedom to work, speak, and worship free of government interference.

Tim Walz:
Got political when students were turned away from Bush event
To be honest, I did not pay a lot of attention to politics. Things changed in 2004. Former President George Bush came to speak in a Mankato quarry. I accompanied two students who wanted to hear the speech. When we arrived, one of my students was turned
away because of a John Kerry sticker on his wallet. We were ordered to board a bus to take us away from the quarry. Though I was allowed to stay--after offensive questioning by a campaigner--the boys were told to leave.
This was a teachable moment for them and for me. I decided that, if a command sergeant major could be harassed for wishing to hear his commander-in-chief, the political process was deeply broken.
That night, I became committed to working to help repair our nation's political system.

Rich Leopold:
I'm a person of faith; I volunteer with faith-based groups
Everyone who runs for office should tell you their beliefs. I am a person who is sustained by the daily practice of faith. I grew up in the Lutheran church, and over the years we have raised our family in Iowa Lutheran congregations.
Being involved in my community and state are important also. There is never enough time, but I have served on boards and volunteered doing "grunt work" for dozens of non-profit, faith-based, youth-centered, and/or conservation organizations.
