2018 House MI elections: on Social Security

Andy Levin: Make wealthy pay more to protect Social Security

Social Security is one of the greatest achievements of the Democratic Party. We owe it to today's seniors and to future generations to protect this vital program. Republicans try to scare people into thinking Social Security can't be fixed, because they want to privatize it. But we can make modest tweaks to ensure the solvency of this program for decades and decades to come, including raising the wage cap to ensure the wealthiest Americans are paying their fair share.

Haley Stevens: Fight any attempt at Social Security privatization

Haley Stevens is a digital manufacturing executive and former chief of staff of President Obama's Automobile Task Force. Stevens is committed to lowering prescription drug prices, declaring that "senior citizens should never have to choose between paying for food or paying for their prescriptions." She promises to be a stalwart advocate for earned benefits who will "fight any attempt to privatize Social Security or turn Medicare into a voucher program."

Elissa Slotkin: Medicare & Social Security: pillars of retirement security

Just like Social Security, Medicare is a pillar of retirement security and needs to be there for retirees now and in the future. If elected, no one will work harder than I will to defend it. But Rep. Mike Bishop and his allies are running baseless attack ads against me about my Medicare position. I'm glad to see another article laying out the facts. Hope you'll take a minute to read and share this new piece about the most recent attack ad.

Brenda Jones: Expand Social Security; amend contribution limits

I stand by expanding our Social Security System as much as possible and will propose amending Social Security contributions, so they are progressive across all income brackets, without limitation with the objective of the wealthy paying their fair share into the system. I also support implementing a constitutional amendment to prohibit removing funds from Social Security for any reason.

Rashida Tlaib: Against any cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid

Preventing Cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid: The Republicans are eager to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to pay for their tax cuts for the rich, and we can't let them get away with it.

Andy Levin: Fight efforts at Social Security privatization

Throughout the summer and fall, we are going to take a look at the best candidates for working people. Today, we feature Michigan congressional candidate Andy Levin. Here are some of the key reasons why Levin is one of the best candidates for working people in 2018:
  • He will fight Republican attempts to undermine and privatize Social Security.
  • Levin will work to protect the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau so it can continue to protect families that are treated poorly by banks, payday lenders, check cashing stores and others.
  • He wants to ensure access to affordable health care for all Americans by passing Medicare for All and taking on the high cost of prescription drugs.
  • Levin advocates for universal public education under local control with well-compensated teachers.
  • He wants to create a comprehensive, long-term program to invest in roads, bridges, sewers, mass transit and other infrastructure.
