On Abortion: Abortion is a woman's right

Protecting a woman's right to reproductive health services, including abortion, has been one of the most important fights of Ayanna's career. On the Boston City Council, she pushed to repeal the Hyde Amendment, in order to ensure that women, regardless of income or healthcare provider, have access to abortion services. She will continue to be a fierce advocate for reproductive justice rights in Congress, and push to repeal the ban on Federal funding being used to cover abortion services.

On Budget & Economy: Federal projects can spur economic growth

States and local communities cannot bear the cost burden of these project alone-- Federal investment is critical and would create much needed jobs and spur economic growth.

On Civil Rights: The LGBTQ community should be treated as equals

Ayanna has long supported the rights of the LGBTQ community to be treated fairly in partnership rights, in marriage and in equal treatment under the law. On the Boston City Council, she co-sponsored the Gender-based Discrimination and Hate Crimes bill, known as the Transgender Civil Rights Bill, co-sponsored a city ordinance that requires city health insurance to cover gender reassignment surgery, and held a hearing to examine the challenges facing LGBTQ youth of color in the city of Boston.

On Corporations: No one on Wall Street is bigger than the law

Ayanna will fight to pass a new Glass-Steagall Act to separate commercial banking services and investment banking, so that no banks are too big to fail, and she will push for new legislation that creates tougher sentences for fraud and negligence among banking executives who jeopardize the retirement and savings of hard-working Americans, sending a clear message that no one on Wall Street is above the law.

On Education: Debt free college should be available for all

In addition, our Federal representatives must work with states and local communities to incentivize greater investment in higher education--including community colleges--which will help drive down the cost of tuition. Ayanna believes that no student should be denied a college education because they can't taafford it--she will push for a debt-free college plan that allows students to attend public colleges and universities without being buried under student loans.

On Energy & Oil: We need to encourage renewable energy

In Congress, I will push to rejoin the Paris Climate Accords, invest in renewable energy production, and develop resilient infrastructure. In addition to protecting our environment, these investments can be a boon for workers--creating thousands of new jobs in technology, manufacturing, and construction.

On Environment: Empower the EPA; strengthen clean air & water laws

Donald Trump and the Republican Congress have shown their desire to roll back important regulations on pollution, eliminate protected lands, and permit destructive practices like offshore oil exploration that jeopardize public health and put the interests of big polluters ahead of children and families. Ayanna will fight to empower the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and strengthen laws that keep our air and water clean.

On Families & Children: Paid family leave is a necessity

And we need to pass paid family leave legislation, so that parents and caregivers don't lose vital income when they need to take care of a sick child or aging parent.

On Gun Control: Gun control needs to be implemented now

Congress must act to strengthen gun control laws in our country--the deaths, injuries, and trauma associated with gun violence are simply too significant to ignore any longer. At the very least, comprehensive background checks on ALL gun sales and banning anyone on no-fly lists from obtaining guns should be passed immediately.

On Health Care: Obamacare should be further implemented

On Immigration: America needs to be immigrant friendly

Ayanna opposes any funding for a wall along our border with Mexico. She will demand a clean DREAM Act and will fight to reinstate Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). We are a country founded by and made great by immigrants. Rather than demonizing immigrants, we should be working together on fair and comprehensive immigration reform that will enable law-abiding immigrants to seek a path to citizenship.

On Jobs: A higher Federal minimum wage is beneficial

Our first priority must be ensuring that no one who works full time lives in poverty. That's why we should take immediate steps to raise the Federal minimum wage to at least $15 an hour and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit so that lower income families keep more of their hard-earned money.

On Social Security: Social Security is crucial and must not be cut

Republicans in Congress continue to look for new ways to undermine Social Security and Medicare, but we must be steadfast in our promise to older Americans who have paid into these essential programs their entire lives. Ayanna doesn't just oppose cutting Social Security and Medicare, she emphatically supports expanding these critical programs, because retirement security is more than a senior issue, it's a family concern.

On Tax Reform: Our tax code should relieve the 99%

The Republican tax bill does nothing but worsen the existing wealth disparity--providing millions in tax breaks to the top 1% and corporations--while burdening the next generation with a trillion dollars in new debt. Instead, Congress should focus on simplifying our tax code in a manner that provides relief for lower- and middle-income families, not wealthy individuals and multinational corporations.

On Technology: Spending on infrastructure will benefit Americans

Now is the time to think big when it comes to public transportation. A well-funded, reliable public transportation system would benefit workers, attract more economic development, ease congestion, and help the environment.
