On Abortion: Fight for women's right to choose; he's 100% pro-choice

I'm 100% pro-choice. Medical decisions should be made by women and their doctors, not politicians like Donald Trump and Mike Pence. The Trump administration, the Republican Congress, and Republican state legislatures all around the country are trying to eliminate access to reproductive health services. I will fight these efforts and support legislation that ensures women have access to contraception and safe and legal abortion.

On Crime: History of working with ACLU to help reform justice system

I've supported the ACLU's efforts to fix our justice system. In 2015 the ACLU created the Trone Center for Justice and Equality in recognition of June and my longtime support. I'm also proud to chair the ACLU's Private Sector and Education Advisory Council. The council released a report showing how hiring returning citizens is good for business. The report uses data from my own company, where we've banned the box and hired over 100 returning citizens. They are some of our best employees.

On Drugs: We can't accept government's response to fight opioid crisis

We have the 10th highest rate of opioid overdose deaths in the nation. President Trump does not take this crisis seriously. He has proposed cutting the budget of the Office of National Drug Control Policy by 95%, refused to declare a national emergency to combat the crisis, and appointed a political advisor rather than a qualified expert to oversee the government's response. This approach is wrong and the consequences are deadly. The government can and must do more to combat this epidemic.

On Education: Recruit, train, and retain high quality teachers

We need to do more to recruit, train, and retain high quality teachers. The first step is recruiting talented people to become teachers. Let's create loan forgiveness programs for people who agree to become teachers and teach for 5 years. Next, we should ensure that teachers have appropriate training and support. I support inclusive education from preschool through 12th grade and beyond. Finally, we need to offer teachers competitive pay that's in line with comparable professions.

On Energy & Oil: Renewable solar energy is proven source; continue investment

We can help transition the United States to a greener economy by providing grants to make green technology affordable and accessible. Solar energy usage has doubled every two years for the past three decades as the technology becomes cheaper. If solar continues to grow at this rate, it could provide all of the world's energy within the next two decades. But in order for it to keep growing at this rate, we need new technologies to keep making it cheaper.

On Environment: Against proposal to cut EPA budget by $2.5B

Trump's proposed FY 2019 budget would cut $2.5 billion in funding from the EPA. These cuts would be devastating to an agency that is already stretched thin. The EPA was created by Republican President Richard Nixon. Democrats and Republicans should be able to work together to ensure that the agency has the funding it needs to carry out its important mission.

On Families & Children: Supports the Childcare for Working Families Act

Working parents, especially single mothers, often can't afford to stay home with their children and struggle to afford quality childcare. Quality childcare is not just important for a child's safety and well-being, it's critical for their future educational development. I support the Childcare for Working Families Act, which will ensure that families earning less than 150% of state median income will pay no more than 7% percent of their income towards childcare costs.

On Free Trade: Grow economy through fair trade agreements, not trade war

We need trade for the economy to grow. The questions are whether the trade agreements will be fair and whether we will help families and communities that are hurt by trade. We have not done either of those in recent deals. Trump's trade war will only make matters worse, though.

On Government Reform: Citizen's United must be overturned; we need transparency

I have learned firsthand the problems with political donations. That's why I refuse to accept money from PACs or lobbyists. We need to overturn Citizens United and enact reform for more transparency. It's unacceptable that PACs can raise millions of dollars, and we don't know who they are. We need to make it easier for everyone who wants to serve and get rid of special interests. The only special interests politicians should care about are yours.

On Gun Control: Work with both parties to pass common sense gun control

Every year there are over 30K gun-related deaths and we must take action to stop the violence. I'll take on the NRA and work with both sides to pass common-sense gun safety laws. Reject all special interest money, including the NRA. Among my top priorities is expanding background checks that keep guns out of the hands of people with a history of violence or serious mental illness by closing the gun-show and loopholes. Ban assault-rifles and bump stocks.

On Health Care: Close Medicaid coverage gap and expand it into all 50 states

Quality healthcare is a basic human right, and the government's job is to ensure that right for all. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act, we've made great strides towards realizing the goal of universal health coverage. We are on the right track toward universal coverage. Uninsured rates are at historic lows, and millions of people have gained coverage because of the law. When it comes to expanding coverage, we need to close the Medicaid coverage gap and expand Medicaid in all 50 states.

On Homeland Security: Veterans deserve aid; empty thank you's aren't helping them

Veterans today are facing many serious challenges with medical care, education, employment, and homelessness. We have a moral obligation to do better. Congress needs to pass real reform that fixes the underlying problems at the VA so that it can deliver the excellent care that it once did. "Thank you for your service" must be more than words. Government at all levels need to step up to find and implement solutions. It's imperative that we fulfill our commitment to serve those who have served us.

On Immigration: Advocate for immigrants; supports pathway to citizenship

Immigrants are an important part of American society and should have a path to citizenship. President Trump's family separations, mass deportations, travel bans, and rescinding of DACA and TPS protections are antithetical to American values. We all benefit from the rich cultural and economic diversity immigrants bring to our community. Research shows that immigrants improve the quality of life for all Americans.

On Jobs: Fight for equal pay for women and paid family leave

Our country has made progress towards equality for women in the workplace. Women now make up 47% of the workforce, and the number of women in the workforce with college degrees has quadrupled since 1970. But there are still significant systemic barriers that hold women back. In Congress, my legislative priorities to ensure equal economic opportunity for women will include: Equal Pay, Paid Family Leave.

On Jobs: Increase minimum wage; then tie to inflation

First, we should raise the minimum wage immediately. Increasing the minimum wage is the best way to reduce poverty and increase worker productivity. With that, we also need to pass a law tying the minimum wage to inflation. The federal minimum wage has not gone up since 2009, and it hasn't kept pace with the rising cost of living. It's one of the best things we can do to reduce poverty.

On Social Security: Social Security works but needs cap raised on taxable wages

Social Security is one of the most successful programs in American history. It's estimated that the program keeps 22 million Americans from living in poverty. The program will face challenges as our population continues to age. The number of workers per retiree is declining. If no action is taken, there will not be sufficient funds to pay out full Social Security by 2034. To fix the funding, we should increase the cap on taxable wages.

On Tax Reform: An equitable tax system means wealthy pay fair share

Trump's tax cuts will strangle our children and grandchildren with $1.9T in debt. It's fiscally irresponsible to be giving giant tax breaks to corporations that do not need them. We need to ensure that the wealthiest pay their fair share. I support the Buffett Rule that people making over 1 million a year should pay no less than 30% in taxes. I also support removing the carried interest loophole that allows hedge fund managers to pay lower tax rates on their profits than working Americans.

On Technology: Infrastructure 2.0 Act: set up bank to fund repairs

Our roads, bridges, and railway tracks are in desperate need of repair. We need an infrastructure bank so that states and municipalities can fund the projects and repairs they need. I support legislation like Congressman Delaney's Infrastructure 2.0 Act.

On War & Peace: Strong advocate for our valued ally, the State of Israel

I am a strong supporter of the State of Israel, the only liberal democracy in the Middle East. Israel is our most important ally in the region, and its safety and security are critical to the interests of the US. I will place a very high priority on deepening ties with Israel because our nations share common values and unwavering commitment to democracy and freedom. In a region consumed by volatility and intractable conflict, Israel remains firmly anchored in freedom and justice.
