Survey of 2018 House campaign websites: on Families & Children

Sean Casten: Advocate for paid parental leave

Advocate for paid parental leave so new parents have time to spend with their newborn babies. Support legislation protecting pregnant women from discrimination at work and in the hiring process. Support the Paycheck Fairness Act, which empowers women in gender pay disputes and improves avenues of recourse. Support legislation to remove the ratification deadline in the Equal Rights Amendment.

Jason Crow: Ensure workers are able to care for their families

We cannot support parents, promote early childhood development, or care for our aging generations without policies that make it possible for American workers to care for their families without fear of losing pay or their jobs. I am fighting to ensure that all workers are able to care for their families without enduring financial hardship--whether they need sick time, parental leave, or time to care for family members.

Angie Craig: Establish national paid family leave

Establish national Paid Family Leave that respects folks who are welcoming new members of their family, allowing them time to bond with their children without having to worry about a false tradeoff between time with their family and meeting their basic financial needs.

Haley Stevens: I am an ardent supporter of paid family leave

I am also an ardent supporter of paid family leave. In an economic environment where it can be difficult to make ends meet even as a middle class family, allowing parents with newborns and individuals with ailing family members to have some time off work to take care of their loved ones could not be more important. Congress must act on passing legislation that puts American families first by guaranteeing paid family leave.

Lucy McBath: Ensure paid family leave like other industrialized countries

One way to improve the lives of working women and their families is to ensure paid family leave. The United States is the only industrialized country in the world to not offer parental leave, and I will support legislation that would allow working mothers and fathers to care for their children appropriately.

David Trone: Supports the Childcare for Working Families Act

Working parents, especially single mothers, often can't afford to stay home with their children and struggle to afford quality childcare. Quality childcare is not just important for a child's safety and well-being, it's critical for their future educational development. I support the Childcare for Working Families Act, which will ensure that families earning less than 150% of state median income will pay no more than 7% percent of their income towards childcare costs.

Colin Allred: Supports full reauthorization of Violence Against Women Act

Allred said he supported a full, five-year reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and added gun control measures. He criticized Sessions for not pushing harder before the expiration and for voting against the 2013 reauthorization. "My opponent should have gone to Speaker [Paul] Ryan and said, put the Violence Against Women Act on the table so we can vote for it and have a full five-year reauthorization, full funding for it, and he did not do that," Allred said.

Deb Haaland: National 6-months paid family leave program

A national paid family leave program--with six months of leave for all--so that we can be there for our families in the times that matter most. No one should die alone because their families can't afford to be there, and babies born into poverty need their parents just as much as babies born into extreme wealth. As a single mom, I believe this policy is especially important to single parents and working families without wealth across America.

Kevin Hern: Fight to defend conservative family values

Kevin will always fight to defend and protect our conservative principles. Kevin could have moved his family nearly anywhere in the country but he is very passionate about Oklahoma. As a proud resident of Oklahoma, Kevin understands what it means to fight for conservative family values.

Lori Trahan: Put working/middle class families first, not corporations

"We need more voices in Washington who are going to stand up to Donald Trump, hold this Administration accountable and restore the values of our country," Trahan said. "We need a Congress that puts working and middle class families first; and not corporations and special interests."

Lori Trahan: Pass paid family leave and make it gender-neutral

Pass and promote paid family and gender-neutral leave. Lori understands that we need to apply family leave programs to all genders. Each parent should enjoy an equal opportunity to bond with their child, care for their parent, or recover from illness. Removing gendered language from policies will abolish the stereotype that women are more likely to use services and reduce the number of women passed over for employment.

Ayanna Pressley: Paid family leave is a necessity

And we need to pass paid family leave legislation, so that parents and caregivers don't lose vital income when they need to take care of a sick child or aging parent.
