Anthony Gonzalez: Deal with trade deficit with new global trade regime

Since the 1970s, the United States has run an extremely large trade deficit. This is due to the fact that our financial system is the most sophisticated and open in the world, and countries have exploited that openness to their advantage. Now is the time to re-balance the trade and capital scales by coming together with our trading partners to establish a new global trade regime built on openness, fairness, and equity.

Anthony Gonzalez: Move critical supply chain back to US from China

Never again can our nation find itself reliant on China for critical supplies of any kind. The global pandemic proved that when China holds supply chain dominance, they will use that dominance to extort any nation that relies on them for critical supplies. We must immediately move key manufacturing and medical supply lines back to the United States so we are never beholden to the Chinese Communist Party again.

Veronica Escobar: Cross-border trade an important component of our economy

Every year, $90 billion of trade comes across our ports of entry, making cross-border trade one of the most important components of our local economy. One of four jobs in El Paso is a result of trade. I will work hard to defeat efforts to implement border tariffs, I will defend the gains made through trade, and if NAFTA is re-negotiated, I will work to ensure that we expand protections for workers, local businesses and the environment.

Dean Phillips: Expand markets for businesses through fair trade agreements

Dean knows how important well-negotiated trade deals are for American businesses. Businesses and economies expand when middle-income families have more money to spend, and when American products and services can access overseas markets. While Dean supports renegotiating sections of existing trade deals to make them more fair to American businesses, Dean opposes the current Administration's dangerous and arbitrary tariffs and escalating trade war.

Angie Craig: Haphazard trade policy compromises national security

I fought for the United States-Mexico-Canada trade agreement to set an unprecedented standard of labor protections. I've also heard from our farmers and small business owners: the trade war with China has gone on long enough. Haphazard trade policy compromises our national security; hurts too many workers, farmers and businesses; and raises prices on basic consumer goods. We cannot afford to isolate ourselves from the world--but we can adjust our policy in thoughtful ways to make it fair.

Angie Craig: Oppose using farmers as political pawns in trade wars

I know that the trade war is hurting our farmers. I oppose every continued attempt to use our farmers as political pawns in the trade war or in any part of partisan politics. I've worked with members of both parties--and have challenged my own party leadership--to ensure that Minnesota family farmers have the resources they need to thrive, and the support they need to get through extreme weather events and unstable economic times.

David Trone: Grow economy through fair trade agreements, not trade war

We need trade for the economy to grow. The questions are whether the trade agreements will be fair and whether we will help families and communities that are hurt by trade. We have not done either of those in recent deals. Trump's trade war will only make matters worse, though.

Debbie Lesko: Free trade needs to be fair trade

[When asked about her stance on international trading systems, Lesko said]: I usually believe in free trade, the free market. But I do know China is stealing our technology. I'm in favor of free trade but fair trade [with China, implying additional restrictions].

[The moderator] said organized labor applauded trade agreements. [Lesko's opponent, Democrat Tipal] Tipirneni said, "We always want agreement fair to American business. I'm very mindful of trade wars; it has real-life implications."

Debbie Lesko: Investment in education should be done locally

I believe education is about empowering parents to make the right choices for their children and their families. That's why I believe the federal government needs to get out of the way of decisions made at the local level. I will support federal block grants back to states so that we in Arizona can continue to decide how best to spend our money--not bureaucrats in Washington.
