Survey of 2018 House campaign websites: on Jobs

Kendra Horn: Equal pay for equal work, expand paid family leave

She will be a leader in fighting for equal pay for equal work and expanding paid family leave policies for all Oklahomans. It's past time we address the problems impacting Oklahoma women -- preventing domestic violence, fighting for equal pay, reducing the number of Oklahoma women in prison (which is the highest in the nation). These are Kendra Horn's priorities, and we need more people in Washington fighting for them.

Kendra Horn: Need to create skilled workforce, raise minimum wage

According to the Commerce Department, there are over 85,000 open jobs in Oklahoma because we don't have a skilled workforce to fill them. We need to make college affordable, encourage Oklahomans to attend CareerTech to learn job skills, and provide potential employers a qualified workforce. The lack of an educated workforce is affecting all sectors. Congress needs to ensure middle class Oklahoma families have the opportunity to succeed, including raising

Anthony Gonzalez: Expand opportunities in skilled trades

We need to promote policies that will encourage the private sector to work directly with our local universities, community colleges, and trade schools to ensure that the skills being cultivated are those that are in the highest demand in our regional economy. Expanding opportunities in the skilled trades through apprenticeships and career and technical education is the right plan for Ohio. High-paying jobs in these critical fields are available throughout the 16th district, and providing more paths into them is essential for our workers.

Jared Golden: Stronger unions lead to a stronger middle-class

Sharice Davids: Voted to raise the federal minimum wage

Anyone who works hard and does everything right should be able to earn a decent living. I've voted to raise the federal minimum wage, which hasn't been increased in nearly a decade, and fought to ensure Equal Pay for Equal Work. I also voted to shore up worker pensions, repeal the Cadillac tax on health care plans, and protect the right to organize. ?

Jason Crow: Invest in workforce development & apprenticeship training

Coloradans deserve good-paying jobs that can support their families. By investing in workforce development, apprenticeship training, and growing industries like healthcare, technology, and renewable energy, we can open the door to career advancement and better opportunities. We must attract better jobs that have good wages and benefits to ensure that Coloradans can afford a home, finance a college education or specialized job training, access health care, and save for retirement.

Jason Crow: Equal pay is not only a women's issue

Equal pay is not only a women's issue--it is also a moral, family, and economic issue. In our country it is a moral issue to treat everyone equally for the work they do. Equal pay will also help grow our economy and support families by making home ownership, education, advanced training, and retirement more accessible for more Coloradans. In Congress I have and will always fight to ensure that women are paid equally for the work they do.

Elaine Luria: Voted to increase the federal minimum wage

I voted to increase the federal minimum wage which could give over 100,000 workers in our district the pay-raise they deserve, and I cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act because it is time women receive equal pay for equal work. I am working to support apprenticeship programs, career and technical education, and access to broadband so workers can attain the skills they need to advance their careers.

Max Rose: Unions are the backbone of America's economy

One of Congress' top priorities must be to protect labor unions, who are the backbone of America's economy. We cannot have a strong middle class, without strong unions. The policies and benefits that unions fight for everyday don't just help their members, they raise wages and improve conditions for hardworking men and women all across the country. That's why Max will continue to advocate for protecting collective bargaining, fighting for pensions and benefits that these men and women deserve.

Mikie Sherrill: Strongly support equal pay for equal work

I strongly support equal pay for equal work. Women in New Jersey make on average 82 cents for every dollar that men make for doing the same job. That drops to 58 cents for African-American women and 43 cents for Latinx women. With so much on the line in Washington including the tax increases from the federal tax bill, equal pay is an issue of economic fairness for all our families.

Dean Phillips: Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to combat wage discrimination

The Equal Pay Act was passed more than 50 years ago, and yet a substantial wage gap still exists between men and women--and particularly women of color. Dean will work to address this through increasing the minimum wage, making it easier for women to have families without jeopardizing their careers, and passing the Paycheck Fairness Act to combat wage discrimination.

Angie Craig: Labor built our middle class & drives our economy

I'm working to protect the rights of our unions and their members to organize and collectively bargain for fair, safe workplaces. Labor has built our middle class, and it continues to drive our economy. Encourage companies to invest in their employees by closing tax loopholes that are currently encouraging them to move their jobs overseas. Instead, we should replace these loopholes with tax credits for companies that hire American Workers.

Angie Craig: Create training partnerships between employers, schools

Everybody, whether they attend a four-year college or pursue a trade, should be able to find a good-paying career. That's exactly why I introduced the 21st Century Workforce Partnerships Act to create hands-on training, and work with local employers and schools to make sure these training programs work together to prepare students for the high-skill jobs available today.

Angie Craig: Encourage industry to recruit, hire, and train veterans

We must make sure veterans have access to good healthcare and quality employment opportunities. We can do more to encourage private industry to recruit, hire, mentor and train veterans. I know it is possible because I did it myself: as a leader at a major Minnesota company, I created a program that put veterans to work in our company and across the medical technology industry.

Angie Craig: Ensure every woman is paid fairly for equal work

I started a Women In Business program to support and mentor women in their career choices. I cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act, because it's time that our laws ensure every woman is paid fairly for equal work. We also must make sure that young women are being exposed to and encouraged to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, which currently count only 23% women among their workforce.

Haley Stevens: Encourage wage growth through equal access to opportunity

I support increasing the minimum wage and encouraging larger businesses to support the $15 minimum wage. In an age when corporate executives make up to 300 times more than the average worker, we need to encourage wage growth through equal access to opportunity, where every child can live up to their full potential to succeed.

I support collective bargaining rights and value the service labor unions provide to our workers. I am a staunch supporter of the Davis-Bacon Act (1931) that established a prevailing wage for public works, and I have been an outspoken critic of Lansing's attempt to repeal Michigan's prevailing wage law on the state level. I believe in a 21st century labor movement that protects workers, supports training programs, and pays a livable wage.

Haley Stevens: We must end the gender pay gap

We must end the gender pay gap. Nationally, women are paid 80 cents for every $1 a man is paid. In Michigan, women make only 78 cents to every $1 for men. The numbers are even worse for women of color. According to a National Partnership for Women & Families study, black women in Michigan make 63 cents for every $1 a man is paid, and Latina women make only 58 cents. This is unacceptable. In Congress, I will be a strong advocate for equal pay for women.

Lucy McBath: Make workplaces more equitable for women

I fundamentally believe that everyone should earn equal pay for equal work. I support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and I wish to build on that law to make workplaces more equitable for Georgia women. One way to improve the lives of working women and their families is to ensure paid family leave. The United States is the only industrialized country in the world to not offer parental leave.

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell: Women deserve the same pay as men

The idea that a woman should be paid the same as a man for doing the exact same work is not revolutionary. And we need more female voices in Washington to help end gender discrimination and fight for equal rights for all of us. I will fight for women's rights, especially for women of color who face additional barriers to full equality. In Congress, I'm working to ensure paid maternity leave, pass child care legislation, and protect reproductive freedom.

Chuy Garcia: Education + training + funding = good paying jobs created

I pledge to develop funding and investments in communities in a way that lifts everyone. We must connect education and training issues and funding with creating good-paying jobs and jobs in growth industries, especially in green industries that will enable people to provide for the families.

David Trone: Fight for equal pay for women and paid family leave

Our country has made progress towards equality for women in the workplace. Women now make up 47% of the workforce, and the number of women in the workforce with college degrees has quadrupled since 1970. But there are still significant systemic barriers that hold women back. In Congress, my legislative priorities to ensure equal economic opportunity for women will include: Equal Pay, Paid Family Leave.

David Trone: Increase minimum wage; then tie to inflation

First, we should raise the minimum wage immediately. Increasing the minimum wage is the best way to reduce poverty and increase worker productivity. With that, we also need to pass a law tying the minimum wage to inflation. The federal minimum wage has not gone up since 2009, and it hasn't kept pace with the rising cost of living. It's one of the best things we can do to reduce poverty.

Deb Haaland: Pro-union; advocate for fair trade policies for unions

I believe in good jobs: jobs that allow workers to pay the rent, put food on the table, care for families, and live with dignity. Labor rights and unions have long formed the backbone of American society and need to be protected at all costs to ensure workers can compete in a world of increasingly extreme income inequality and corporate power. I will advocate for fair trade policies that do justice to our Labor Unions, and against any assault on labor rights.

Deb Haaland: $15/hr minimum wage and a federal job guarantee program

I will fight for: A federal $15 minimum wage so everyone who works full time can put food on the table and pay rent. People need good jobs with living wages. A federal job guarantee needs to be explored and could open the door to other ideas like a national childcare program, universal pre-k to address the education gap, and public art to make our cities more vibrant and livable. As automation increases and climate change shifts our landscape, we need to think about how to keep America working.

Ayanna Pressley: A higher Federal minimum wage is beneficial

Our first priority must be ensuring that no one who works full time lives in poverty. That's why we should take immediate steps to raise the Federal minimum wage to at least $15 an hour and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit so that lower income families keep more of their hard-earned money.
