2018 IA Governor's race: on Energy & Oil

Fred Hubbell: Grow the economy using biomass, sun, and wind resources

[Asked about economic growth, Hubbell answered], "I think the best way to grow a state's economy is first of all start with your strengths," Hubbell said. "We have the fourth best wind in the country for producing energy. We have the 14th best sun for producing energy. We also have some of the world's biggest amount of biomass for ethanol and biodiesel and related products. My suggestion is we should try to build on the natural strengths that we have in those areas."

Cathy Glasson: Move forward with new green energy sources

When it comes to protecting our air, land and water, we don't need half-measures or empty promises: we need to take action now. We must work to get to zero emissions as fast as possible and make it a real priority in our state government. We should work to transition to clean energy by expanding solar power, wind, and other alternative energy sources. Create new green jobs guaranteeing workers a $15 minimum wage, good benefits and union rights.

Nate Boulton: 50% renewable energy by 2025

Nate will invest in renewable resources. He has committed to creating 50% of Iowa's energy from renewable energy by 2025. As Senator, he has sponsored legislation to ensure Iowa remains a solar energy leader. By building wind turbines and solar panels in Iowa and continuing research into new technologies, our state can continue to be a leader in renewable fuels and energy production while also creating skilled jobs expansion for our state.

Rich Leopold: Supports strong wind industry in Iowa

Because our nation's economy is strong, Iowa's unemployment is down, but there are still too many unemployed or underemployed. How do you pass a "gas tax" for crumbling transportation infrastructure, & then lay-off state transportation workers the very next year?!

We need Iowa jobs. We need sustainable and good paying jobs that can't be outsourced, such as the strong wind industry in Iowa that I helped bring about.

And we need a plan. Iowa government seems to be running by the seat of their pants.

Andy McGuire: Trump full of hot air on wind power

Donald Trump's attack on wind is an attack on Iowa's economy. Wind energy is absolutely critical to growing our economy and creating good paying jobs. It accounts for 37% of all energy generated in the state.

I will bolster the progress we've made as a leader in wind energy, and I will fight to ensure that our state transitions to 100% clean renewable energy produced right here in Iowa. Trump sounds like a typical Washington politician--full of hot air and no clue what he's talking about.
