Scott Noren in 2018 NY Senate race

On Corporations: Real way to build economy is by making SBA loans available

Everyone running says this but revamping SBA loans so money is available to start small businesses is crucial; BTW, Paychex was started by Tom Golisano with $3000 and is now a billion dollar plus corporation. I wrote a proposed Bill to expand small business loans for many more people.

On Crime: Incarcerate criminals but sentences should reflect the crime

Those criminals that terrorize neighborhoods and communities must be separated from society. Sentences need to be appropriate for the crime and reviewed frequently by independent panels. That can work to increase or decrease them as appropriate. Develop strong police to community relationships. Also develop a better communication system to alert law enforcement when there are red flags for violence in families, friendship circles and communities.

On Drugs: Opioid solutions are not working; start with prescriptions

Opioid Crisis: Most solutions offered are increases in rehab and throwing money at the crisis as well as 'safe injection sites' for heroin users. I think the two main areas of immediate action needed are better mandatory prescribing practices and a new American Medical Board Specialty in Chronic Pain Management. A National Pharmacy Narcotic Database is also needed. There are also too many monetary incentives for primary care physicians to write narcotic prescriptions.

On Education: National school voucher system for community college

We need to pay for community college nationally with a voucher system and therefore in some cases pay for all the college some people need and half of the degree for people needing a bachelor's degree and beyond. There are many fields where an Associate's degree is all one needs to excel in a job or small business. We also need to allow communities to have better control of how they teach their kids in school vs national 'cookie-cutter' programs that benefit billion dollar corporations.

On Environment: Ban fracking; scrap nonsense regulations

Balance business/environmental regulation and overregulation. Our environment is taking a hit from the current administration policy; I am for banning fracking federally. I am for business regulations that make sense and scrapping ones that are obviously ridiculous.

On Homeland Security: Proactive, not reactive, actions taken to aid military

Senator Gillibrand has been ineffective on the Senate Armed Services Committee and we need to protect and provide for our active duty and vets more than what is being done. It is usually a 'mop-up' instead of having foresight to their realtime needs and being less antagonistic to the leadership as she has been. We also need a declaratory policy regarding an attack on one of our strategic space satellites.

On Energy & Oil: No more nuclear power plants; invest in green energy jobs

Creating green energy jobs by manufacturing the products needed to partly take homes and business off the public utility grids will be an enormous boost economically for this state. Senator Gillibrand has said let's protect our water supply and only allow fracking if it's done safely. I disagree and don't want any fracking here. She also advocated for more nuclear power plants in Western NY and I am absolutely against this proposal.

On Free Trade: Free trade agreements kill jobs & move them overseas

Dr. Noren feels one way to increase job creation is through smaller, interest-free business loans that don't involve banks directly. He also thinks that passing more Free Trade agreements like both sides of the aisle did recently, kills jobs and takes them overseas. Noren said, "Although it takes money to campaign, millions of dollars are wasted on campaigns that could be used to stimulate job growth here domestically." Overturn of Citizen's United and getting rid of "Victory Funds" is a must.
