2018 NY Senate race: on Tax Reform

Chele Farley: Criticizes Congressional GOP tax plan

Farley seems cognizant that she is running on the GOP line in a blue state. She appears to be toeing a relatively moderate line. Some of the policy points she raises in her campaign launch video, such as criticizing the tax plan recently passed in Congress, echo NY Democrats. Farley calls Gillibrand "ineffective" for not doing more to stop that tax legislation, despite the fact that the legislation was written and championed by Republicans. No Democrat voted for the bill.

Dave Webber: Keep tax rate higher on wealthy for now, & slowly lower it

I support the spirit of the President's tax reform, but the details concern me. For instance, why cut taxes for the wealthy? Keep them at 39% and continue using the additional revenue to help with your budget. The wealthy have had years under President Obama to become accustomed to the tax burden. We can slowly decrease their tax rate as the benefits of lower taxes bring up the lower and middle tax bracket groups. Also, we should employ language that will close loopholes used by billionaires.
