2018 PA Senate race: on Foreign Policy

Rick Saccone: Don't trust UN vetting: pause all Syrian refugees

I have seen editorials comparing a pause in Syrian refugee settlement to desecration of the Statue of Liberty's inscription that reads "huddled masses yearning to breathe free." The present situation is much different. Peppered among the so-called "huddled masses" of Syrian refugees "yearning to be free" are radicalized jihadists yearning to kill us.

Some say we should not react in fear, and that by slowing down the refugee program the terrorists win. Wrong again! A pause is not a reaction of fear but a calculated response designed to ensure the safety of Americans from terrorists.

Some say the United Nations already employs a vigorous 18-24 month vetting process for refugees, including biometric data and detailed face-to-face interviews. That process can be effective where the refugees are sincere & their plight is authentic. But we now have a stated & demonstrated threat of subverting the process by radical jihadist ISIS members infiltrating the stream of genuine refugees.
