John Bel Edwards: Provide regulatory relief for small business

I am asking you to create a Louisiana Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council charged with helping small businesses remain competitive in Louisiana. We are cutting through the red tape and giving small businesses regulatory relief that costs them money and are overly burdensome. Louisiana ranks as the 6th worst in the nation for convoluted occupational licensing requirements. We can fix that. To ensure we are maximizing our efforts to provide regulatory relief, I have directed my cabinet to review all regulations, especially related to small businesses, and identify areas where can provide relief.

Chris Sununu: Lower business tax to accompany no income or sales tax

There is a saying that those of us who are born in New Hampshire are lucky, and those of you who moved here are smart. We have no income tax, we have no sales tax, and now, we have lower business taxes and fewer regulations. Let's keep it that way.

Chris Sununu: 3-phase deregulation to help business

When I took office last year, we were one of the most over-regulated states in the Country. Therefore, I initiated a three phase approach to deregulation. Last summer, as part of phase one, we wiped over 1,600 regulations off the books by executive order. I then created a Regulatory Reform Steering Committee to review the State's current regulatory structure and propose reforms. A few weeks ago, that Committee released a report on Phase 2 that proposed some of the most comprehensive regulatory reform efforts that this State has ever seen. House Bill 1104, when it is complete and signed into law, will streamline permitting processes, modernize our corporate filing systems, reduce confusion and inconsistencies in local regulations.

John Hickenlooper: Fund $10M program to support rural business

But to reinvigorate more of our smaller communities, we need to incentivize companies and rural entrepreneurs, or the urban ones who want to be rural, to take a chance and start a business where they're needed the most. That's why we just announced a ten-million-dollar Rural Venture Fund to focus equity investment and access to capital in rural parts of the state, similar to what they've done along the front range.

John Hickenlooper: 5-year initiative to support startup businesses

Startup Colorado is a five-year initiative to organize and convene startups around the state.

We're expanding our Blueprint and Rural Jumpstart economic development programs. Maybe we need to expand the Jumpstart incentive to seven years? We're backstopping loans for rural markets that allow businesses and startups to get more access to capital. Maybe we should do more?

Working closely with business and education leaders, in a public-private partnership, Colorado is igniting an apprenticeship renaissance with Careerwise. We're connecting companies, talent, K-12 schools, community colleges and training centers. Within a decade we want to see twenty-thousand students per year receiving college credit, developing skills, and learning how business works.

Jim Justice: Just Cut Taxes And Win: start with business taxes

I'm going to call something JCTAW. And it's going to stand for Just Cut Taxes And Win. What I want to start with is the elimination of the tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment and manufacturing inventory.

Phil Bryant: Growing business is best jobs program

Twice last year, the unemployment rate in Mississippi fell to 4.9 percent, and was 4.8 percent in November. That is the lowest since unemployment levels began to be recorded in 1979. I believe every Mississippian deserves an equal opportunity for a good job, and I am working hard to make this belief a reality.

As Ronald Reagan once said, the best social program is a job. Now, that's a program we have been very successful in expanding. In the past, Mississippi has had people looking for jobs. Today, we have more than 40,000 jobs looking for people.

This session, I will have some other recommendations to reduce more government regulations and unleash the independent spirit that will make Mississippi the most job-friendly state in America.
