Paul LePage: Land preservation reduces tax revenue

Nearly 20% of our state is conserved from development. This is an area larger than Connecticut. In 1993, about 35,800 acres of land was owned by land trusts. That number has increased by an astonishing 1,270%. Land trusts now control more than half-a- million acres with an estimated value of over $400 million. Ask your local officials how much land in your community has been taken off the tax rolls. Ask them how much in tax revenue it would be contributing today to help reduce your property taxes.

Asa Hutchinson: Reduce burden of unreasonable regulations

Whether it's a veteran or a civilian who moves to Arkansas to start a business, it's important for our state's business climate to be helpful to all entrepreneurs--not a hindrance. That's why we promised to reduce the burden of unreasonable regulations on our businesses, and we've made great strides, but there's more to be done. In fact, later this week, I will announce the names of the Arkansans who have agreed to serve on a working group focused on reducing regulatory burdens. By fall, they will present a blueprint for legislation to present during the 92nd General Assembly that will eliminate unnecessary obstacles that prevent Arkansans from pursuing their dreams for a particular trade.

Jerry Brown: Deal with pollution at local level

When you passed cap-and-trade legislation, you also passed a far-reaching air pollution measure that for the first time focuses on pollutants that disproportionately affect specific neighborhoods. Instead of just measuring pollutants over vast swaths of land, regulators will zero in on those communities which are particularly disadvantaged by trains, trucks or factories.

Henry McMaster: Oppose drilling and seismic testing along our coast

We cannot take for granted our precious natural resources which define and sustain us, from the mountains to the sea. Our economy and culture depend on a living, pristine coastline. Every municipality along our coast has voted to oppose drilling and seismic testing. They are right.

We must do whatever it takes to preserve this economic paradise we call "the beach, the marsh, the coast and the lowcountry." It is made of gold.

Sam Brownback: I dream of a Kansas known as the Renewable State

I dream of a Kansas known as the Renewable State. Dream with me of an Ogallala Aquifer that never runs dry because the use is sustainable. Of our reservoirs dredged, renewed and supplying the water we need in times of severe drought. Of us having a legal, binding allotment of water from the Missouri River and of an Arkansas River with water in its whole course.

Andrew Cuomo: Pro-active policy to protect groundwater

This state has been the most aggressive state in the country in protecting groundwater, and I applaud the members of the legislature for all the actions they've taken. Clean Water Infrastructure Act, we just passed last year, $2.5 billion. We have the Bay Park Wastewater Treatment Plant that we just announced where we're redoing the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act. We did the Environmental Protection Fund, more money than ever before to protect the environment.
