I signed my first Executive Order which first requires all Cabinet Agencies to update their sexual harassment prevention policies. Every employee, every intern, every contractor shall receive the material.
Second, it requires every state employee, every manager, even every intern to undergo sexual harassment prevention training. This will happen annually.
Third, allegations of sexual harassment will be investigated promptly and appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken swiftly.
We will resist every move from President Trump and a misguided Congressional leadership that would worsen income inequality; or divide families or deny access to college for our Dreamers; or defund essential infrastructure; or gut health care for our children, seniors, and the working poor.
A stronger and fairer New Jersey is rooted in an economy that creates better jobs and provides higher wages ... that creates places where industries can grow and communities can rise, where innovative companies are born and where millennials want to live and where seniors want to retire ... and, which remembers that we all have value and we all can contribute, including, and especially, the differently abled.
I commend the number of women who have found the courage to speak out. As a woman, a mother of three girls, a grandmother, wife, sister, and daughter, I understand we're at an unprecedented moment in time.
I also understand that this is not a partisan issue. It can't be fixed by legislation or rule-making alone. You cannot legislate kindness or respect or morality. They must be taught. And that means the solution starts with every individual, man or woman. It's about showing respect to others. It's about character and decency. And it's about changing the culture once and for all.
