2018 Governor's State of the State speeches: on Homeland Security

Doug Burgum: Need strong deterrent against rogue nations

The Minot Air Force Base, it's not only critical to our local economy in a time where we still have unfortunately global tensions and potentially global nuclear tensions which are again an unthinkable thing that I thought I could maybe quit thinking about from the 60's and 70's when we were kids and doing the drills. It's very important for our country and for all freedom loving people everywhere that we have a strong deterrent when we have rogue nations that are threatening nuclear activity.

Eric Greitens: Let military spouses work in Missouri

We have members of the armed forces who get orders to come to Missouri. Today, if their spouse is licensed to work in another state, Missouri may not recognize those licenses. That means, if your spouse has a career in dentistry in Tennessee, and your family is moved to Whiteman Air Force base, they may not be able to work here. That needs to change. We need to grant full reciprocity of licenses obtained in other states to military members, veterans, and their spouses.

Doug Ducey: Increase tax exemption for vets

It's been nearly 30 years since Arizona created the tax exemption for military retirement pay. But it's capped and not once, have we increased it. Arizona has more than 600,000 veterans, and for the military retirees who quality for the exemption, inflation alone has chopped it in half. Their service has earned them a lifetime benefit from our nation. So please, send me a bill that increases the exemption and demonstrates to our vets that we value this service.
