Jeff Colyer: Help Wichita maintain its title of Air Capital of the World

I've been working with our state's largest private employer, Spirit Aerosystems, and in December they announced plans to invest more than $1 Billion dollars and hire more than 1000 Kansans. That's a $1 million-dollar investment for EVERY job. In talking with Spirit and other aviation leaders, we've come to learn the real challenge is filling these positions with qualified workers. These are great jobs. They will provide a great life and opportunities for many families.

The [proposed state] budget also helps Wichita maintain its title of Air Capital of the World, with its investments in the National Institute for Aviation Research and the National Center for Aviation Training. I support these investments and hope you'll join me in advocating for them as you work through the budget process.

Our public transportation system collapsed during the brutal winter of 2015. But three years later the T is investing hundreds of millions of dollars more on upgrading its core infrastructure than it has in years, modernizing its operations and rescuing projects like the Green Line Extension.

There is more to do on the T. Much more. But for the first time in years the plan to modernize the system is in place and moving forward. Fixing decades of neglect doesn't happen overnight. But make no mistake we will deliver the public transit system the people of this Commonwealth deserve.

When we took office, more than 50 communities in Western Massachusetts didn't have access to high speed internet services. [Now] the vast majority of the communities that had none when we took office either have it now or have plans to install it. Thanks to this Legislature's help with funding for the build out they will all have this must have infrastructure over the next two years.

Kim Reynolds: Expand broadband capabilities to every corner of rural Iowa

So today I'm announcing a new initiative that focuses on rural Iowa, which I have asked Lieutenant Governor Gregg to lead. We will bring together leaders from across Iowa with different backgrounds to be part of this effort. Iowans who have lived in rural communities all of their lives, those who recently moved there, young professionals, successful business owners, and those just starting out.

This new initiative will promote investment and connect rural Iowa by expanding broadband capabilities in every corner of our state. Our goal: to keep and bring home Iowa's sons and daughters and grow the next generation of community leaders.
