Andrew White in 2018 TX Governor's race
On Abortion:
Firm proponent of women's right to make her own decisions
Roe v Wade is the established law of the land, and has been for decades, and I respect the law.ÿI'll work to expand women's access to healthcare services, which means working on policies to: Increase education and access to contraceptives.
Increase access to pre-natal care. Reduce death due to complications during pregnancy and delivery. Reduce infant mortality. Do I respect the rights of the mother?ÿYou bet I do. Do I respect that a woman's body is private?ÿAbsolutely.ÿ

On Civil Rights:
No more political games; fight for all human rights
I'll promote human rights and equality for all Texans, no matter their color, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. America stands for freedom. For all.
We need to get our priorities straight. As governor, I'll stop these insane political games. Let's do right.

On Education:
Close $5 billion property tax loophole to aid schools
Our kids are getting the 43rd ranked education in the country. Not acceptable. Today, we pay for our schools using an algorithm that no one understands. Let's simplify it.
I'll ask a civic leader to lead a panel to research and determine the best path forward.ÿWhere does the money come from?ÿI'll pay for it by closing a $5 billion property tax loophole that mainly benefits out-of-state commercial property owners.ÿ

On Energy & Oil:
Believes in climate change and will act to address it
The risk of climate change is clear, and the risk warrants action. Increasing carbon emissions in the atmosphere are having a warming effect. There is broad scientific and policy consensus that action must be taken to further
quantify and assess the risks. Don't believe me on this. Believe ExxonMobil. The text above comes right from their website.ÿI'll enforce existing pollution laws.ÿI'll support Texas' leadership in drilling technology.

On Government Reform:
Fight to end the non-competitive gerrymandering system
Our political parties gerrymander voting districts so well that 95% of congressional races have no competition.ÿ95 percent! Everyone knows competition, in anything, improves results. But today, the most competitive economy in the world
elects its leaders in the least competitive way.ÿThis is why our system is broken. It explains how a fringe segment of one party can control our entire state government.ÿThis is where "Bathroom bills" come from. Legislators can't give us fair districts.

On Gun Control:
Not anti-gun but we need universal background checks
I support the 2nd Amendment. I'm not anti-gun. The terrible events we see on the news should make you wonder how we got here. A tight primary race creates a competition to see which politician can be more "Pro-Gun". The gun lobby birthed its
own "litmus" test: you're either pro-gun or anti-gun.ÿI bet most of us are somewhere in between.ÿWe need a universal background check law that requires ALL gun buyers, regardless of where they buy the gun, to have a simple background check performed.

On Health Care:
4-step plan to reduce healthcare costs for everyone
Healthcare is expensive.ÿHow do we make it cheaper?- List Prices: When I buy health services, I don't even know what it costs.
- Reduce Fraud: Medical professionals who commit fraud need to be in jail.
- Reduce Admin Costs:
Paperwork drives up the cost. Increase
- Preventative Care: We already have universal care. It's called the Emergency Room. And it's expensive.ÿMore coverage means lower healthcare costs.ÿ

On Homeland Security:
Help first responders with citizen-led response teams
I'm against not preparing for something we know will happen. "You can borrow my boat" worked for Harvey, but it's not a strategy we should rely on.ÿI'll organize a statewide effort to create citizen-led, neighborhood response teams that can assist
1st responders in the event of a major natural catastrophe/terrorist event.ÿThese teams will catalog their skill sets. They'll organize a leader, agree on a communications plan, perform annual training exercises and coordinate with local officials.ÿ

On Immigration:
Weak borders are "Open for Business" for criminals
I believe in a secure border. I also believe in effective policies for legal immigration. I know there's a way to be rigorous and compassionate. I understand the challenges of this issue. Our weak borders have read like a 1,254-mile-long "Open for
Business" sign to millions of undocumented immigrants and the criminals who take advantage of them. For the sake of all of us who believe in law and safety, we must be strong on border security. We must also be compassionate.

On Immigration:
Sanctuary City laws force police to do border patrol work
Local police fight crime, not illegal immigration. Border patrol agents fight illegal immigration. That's how law enforcement works. Let's be clear. The Sanctuary Cities law means that when Hispanic or Latino-Americans get pulled over in a state that's
nearly 39% Hispanic or Latino, they'll be asked to show their papers more often than ever. But, when people who look like me get pulled over, they probably won't even be asked. That's discrimination. Pure and simple. And that's not right.

On Tax Reform:
Unfair tax burden at state level on homeowners
When it comes to property taxes, the system is rigged AGAINST homeowners. The "Equal and Uniform" loophole costs Texans $5 billion per year. Buy a house, and the county values it around what you paid. Buy an office building, and
a judge can value it at half the price. Commercial property owners use it every day, but homeowners get no discount. This puts an unfair burden on homeowners. When you lose $5 billion a year in property taxes, you can't pay for things.

On Jobs:
Knows how to create jobs and make progress
White said he would focus on improving public education, creating jobs and giving people access to affordable health care. "I know how to create jobs,"
he said. "I know how to deal with complex problems and I know how to build consensus among warring parties so you can make progress."
