Christine Hallquist in 2018 VT Governor's race
On Drugs:
Tax retail marijuana for clean water and public education
On marijuana sales: Hallquist supports a taxed and regulated retail marijuana market, often framing her support in terms of protecting Vermonters from untrustworthy sources of marijuana.
Hallquist has talked about using marijuana revenue to fund clean-water initiatives and address opiate addiction. She told the cannabis website Heady Vermont that some of the money could also be used for public education.

On Gun Control:
Ban assault weapons; regulate guns like cars
On gun regulation: Hallquist supports the gun restrictions that were passed by the Legislature and Gov. Scott this year.
She has talked about further regulation, though has said guns are not a top priority issue. "My position on guns is similar to, we should treat it like we treat motor vehicles,"
Hallquist said in an interview before the primary election. Hallquist would also support a ban on so-called "assault weapons." In an early-August debate on Vermont PBS,
Hallquist added a caveat: "I would also support a ban on assault weapons--should the Legislature have the appetite to address that issue."

On Tax Reform:
Revamp tax structure and increase taxes on the wealthy
Cameron Russell, Hallquist's campaign manager, said she wasn't surprised to hear she hadn't received the Progressive nomination.
But he stressed that the candidate has touted progressive priorities like a Medicare-for-all and redesigning Vermont's tax structure to increase the burden on high-income earners.

On Crime:
Address racial bias in criminal justice system
Hallquist campaigned on a promise to build up renewable energy and boost the state's rural economy by expanding broadband access. Backed by the Justice Democrats, the same group that helped launch Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's campaign in New York,
along with the Working Families Party and Trans United Fund, Hallquist supports "Medicare for all," raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and has pledged to address racial disparities in the state's criminal justice system.

On Gun Control:
Regulate guns like we regulate automobiles
Vermont's gun culture is thorny even in a Democratic primary. "I would prefer not talking about this issue," Hallquist said. But what is her position? Well, she owns 5 hunting rifles, which she doesn't use because most of them she acquired a long
time ago. "I'm beating around the bush," she said, and after some more explanation, "I'm really beating around the bush." Finally, she confided, "I would support regulating guns like we regulate automobiles, but I really don't want to talk about it."
