2018 WA Senate race: on Homeland Security

Susan Hutchison: Expand depleted military to increase readiness

The most fundamental role of the federal government is to protect its citizens.ÿAs the daughter, wife and mom of military officers, I understand the burden our armed forces men and women shoulder to ensure our national security. I would have voted FOR the bill to fix our depleted military and increase readiness. Also, the often-overlooked military families--spouses and children--have sacrificed so much for America.

Dave Strider: Funds for veterans, not waging war for profits

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Expand the military"?

A: Only if you also expand the Veterans Administration dollar for dollar then I might want to expand the conversation. I am a Marine. Be careful in waging war for profits, when this nation is not in harms way except from those that would steal our freedom like those representing us now.

Mike Luke: End all military spending in other nations

The current US foreign policy does not keep us safe! It creates enemies while simply putting some of us now and future generations in unsustainable debt.

It is time to end all military spending in other nations, our military should be charged with protecting our commercial, travel and shipping assets throughout the world and the high seas while protecting our citizens and borders at home. We no longer need to loan out our military to be someone else's world policeman and another country's rented military.

In order to cut military spending, we must scale back the mission of our troops to defending our shipping and travel rights throughout the world along with protecting our states and territories. Military intervention around the world without direct provocation of war and defending/policing other nations is not only expensive but there is no return on investment. The cost of American lives in all this conflict is too high and for that there can never be a return on investment.
