Bob Harlow in 2018 WI Governor's race

On Gun Control: NRA is crazy; common-sense gun legislation needed

The candidates were then asked about their support for education and teachers, and how they feel about gun control and schools.

"Traveling the state, everybody I talk to, especially gun owners, especially hunters, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, they all think, No. 1, the NRA is crazy, and No. 2, nobody should be able to purchase or own an assault weapon," Harlow said. "Common sense gun legislation is needed."

On Abortion: Support a woman's right to control her body

Harlow posted on Twitter: "Sadly, @JudgeBradleyWI, who opposes a woman's right to control her body & called our LGBT brothers and sisters 'immoral' is now on the WI SC."

OnTheissues note: Judge Rebecca Bradley had written in 1992 in the Marquette Tribune that supporters of abortion on demand (such as newly elected president Bill Clinton) were murderers. That and other decades-old anti-choice and anti-gay statements were a major issue in Bradley's 2016 judgeship race, which Bradley won.

On Social Security: Balance budget but protect Social Security and Medicare

Bob's Statement on the Republican Tax Bill: America needs a balanced budget that protects Social Security and Medicare and makes investments in innovation, infrastructure and defense. The Republican party doesn't care. They have one priority while in power: Max out Uncle Sam's credit card and send checks to their donors.

On Jobs: Undo Act 10; restore collective bargaining rights

Bob Harlow, who finished in last place during a 2016 congressional primary in California, was the first candidate to officially jump in. He told FOX6 News that last year's congressional race was a sort of trial run. "I think I've always wanted to run for governor of Wisconsin, and now I have an opportunity," Harlow said. "There's a core energy behind our campaign." Harlow pledges to undo Act 10, the 2011 law that stripped most public workers of their collective bargaining rights.

On Technology: Build 200 mile-per-hour high-speed rail network in Wisconsin

Bob Harlow wants to bring a 200 mile-per-hour high-speed rail network to Wisconsin and pledges to undo Act 10, the 2011 law that stripped most public workers of their collective bargaining rights.

In 2010, Walker campaigned on canceling the high-speed rail plans of his predecessor, Democrat Jim Doyle. And, a few weeks after taking office in 2011, Walker proposed a budget repair bill that included the collective bargaining changes.

These resources will be provided on a competitive basis to Wisconsin small businesses in exchange for an ownership stake held by the people of Wisconsin.

On Education: Fund every student above the national per-pupil average

Make sure every school in Wisconsin is funded at or above the national per-pupil average: I believe that every Wisconsin kid deserves the opportunity to realize his or her full potential. That's why I will make sure that every school in Wisconsin is funded at or above the national per-pupil average. I will also streamline each educational and career step by providing opportunities for middle, high school, and UW system students to pursue college classes, internships, and research within the framework of their curriculum. And, pass a law that ensures public money is only spent on public schools

On Energy & Oil: No new pipelines; no new strip-mines

Veto all new pipeline and mining proposals: I love and respect our beautiful state and I know you do too. I also know that when we damage our natural wealth by building pipelines and strip mines, the state of Wisconsin seldom sees an uptick in jobs or any other economic benefit to justify doing so. That's why I will veto all new pipeline and mining proposals.

On Health Care: Full health coverage of your choice, capped at 9% of income

My healthcare plan for Wisconsin provides full coverage for every Wiconsinite at a cost that is never more than 9% of your income. At the same time, it allows you to choose any doctor or specialist in the whole state of Wisconsin for each exam or procedure. It works like this.

On Jobs: Repeal Walker's legislation that banned unionized workplaces

Repeal Scott Walker's legislation that banned unionized workplaces: I am a steadfast supporter of unions. Unions give a strong political voice to Wisconsinites, protect our rights in the workplace, and help make sure that Wisconsinites get a fair deal for the work they do. That's why the first thing I will do as Governor is repeal Scott Walker's legislation that banned unionized workplaces. Immediately restore the right of public employees to bargain collectively: I support our teachers and public employees, and I will immediately restore the right of public employees to bargain collectively. I have so much respect for the talented Wisconsinites who work hard every day to make our state a better place to live and work. As Governor, I will work collaboratively with Wisconsin's outstanding public employees to innovate on and improve every department of government.

On Technology: 1 Gb internet in every home, plus 200 mph high speed rail

Create 35,000 jobs through record investment in Wisconsin's infrastructure: My first priority is job-creating infrastructure investments that position Wisconsin to be the economic powerhouse of America's future. By bringing 1 Gb internet to every home, building 200 mph high speed rail that connects our region, modernizing our highways to be safer and more efficient, and by making Wisconsin 30% renewable by 2030, we will create 35,000 good paying jobs and boost economic growth in Wisconsin for decades.

On Tax Reform: 10% increase for those making more than $1 million

Q: What are some of the things you hope to do as Congressman?

A: I would stand by a 10 percent increase in the tax of Americans making more than $1 million a year in what would result in a highest marginal tax rate of 40 percent for that bracket. In the 1950s under Eisenhower, it was 91 percent. Another thing is to raise $1 billion to send 20,000 students to public colleges and universities with free tuition, room and board.
