Attorney General Patrick Morrisey filed for the US Senate [and his GOP primary opponent Evan] Jenkins issued a statement:

"When Mountain State Republicans see Patrick Morrisey's name on their primary ballot this May, they will categorically reject his notion that WV's next senator should be a profiteering D.C. lobbyist beholden to big drug companies, Planned Parenthood, and--most recently--Steve Bannon. And with $1.7 million in campaign debt, Morrisey's loyalties lie with them--not West Virginians," Jenkins said.

"Primary voters will also remember that Morrisey refused to stand with them two years ago when WV Republicans overwhelmingly chose Donald Trump to be our next president--and they won't send Morrisey back to Washington at a time when President Trump and all West Virginians need a senator they can count on to represent Mountain State values. As a proud ally of our president--I am confident that my candidacy offers voters what they want and deserve in their next senator," Jenkins said.

On Crime: Tough on crime, but open to reforms

I'm tough on crime. I think people have responsibilities and they should be held accountable, but I served on the Governor's Justice Reinvestment Plan in West Virginia to try to use the money that is already in the system to get treatment in our prisons. We have felony prisoners come up for parole, but they have not had the classes needed to be eligible. On Energy & Oil: I'm fighting for coal by reducing EPA regulatory burdens

I can fight for coal and I'm fighting for coal by trying to reduce the regulatory burdens. We cut a billion dollars out of the EPA's proposed budget from the president. I went through the EPA and found that the president was planning to fund a theatrical performance on climate change. On Government Reform: Important to keep information secure

Jenkins' office said people need to trust the election system. "Trust in our electoral system is a critical part of our democracy, and oversight should always play a role in our elections," Jenkins said. "We must ensure our polling places, clerks and election systems are protected from cyber threats, as the FBI recently uncovered hacking attempts.
