June Democratic candidates debate in Miami FL: on Jobs

John Hickenlooper: No socialism: we can't promise every American a job

If we don't clearly define that we are not socialists, the Republicans are going to come at us every way they can and call us socialists. We can't promise every American a government job. If we want to get universal health care coverage, I believe that health care is a right and not a privilege, but you can't expect to eliminate private insurance for 180 million people, many of whom don't want to give it up.

Jay Inslee: Reinvigorate collective bargaining & stand with unions

We've got to realize the people who brought us the weekend, unions, are going to bring us a long overdue raise in America. I've got a plan to reinvigorate collective bargaining so we can increase wages. The next thing I'll do is put people to work in the jobs of the present and the future. We know that we can put millions of people to work in the clean energy jobs of the future.

John Delaney: Create living wage via paid family leave & more

Q: How would you address income inequality?

NYC Mayor DeBlasio: You hear folks say there's not enough money. What I say to them is there's plenty of money in this country.

Q: Do you agree?

Rep. Delaney: We need to make sure everyone has a living wage. I've called for a doubling of the earned income tax credit, raising the minimum wage, and creating paid family leave. That will create a situation where people actually have a living wage. Then we've got to fix our education system.
