CNN N. H. Town Hall: on Foreign Policy

Elizabeth Warren: Let Israelis and Palestinians decide together on Jerusalem

Q: Pres. Trump moved the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Would you move the embassy back out of Jerusalem?

WARREN: We need to encourage both Israel and the Palestinians to negotiate with each other. The US should not be putting a thumb on the scale, should not be saying in these negotiations, "We stand only with one party." We should recognize that Israel has a right to its security. The Palestinians have a right to self-determination and to be treated with respect. The two-state solution has been the official policy of the US and of Israel for nearly 70 years now. To make that happen, you want to be a good friend to Israel AND to the Palestinians. Our job is to get them to the negotiating table.

A: So, the embassy?

WARREN: The embassy is what they should be negotiating. The parties should negotiate whether or not the capital is in Jerusalem, and then the US should move its embassy to be in the capital of each of the two states in a two-state solution.

Elizabeth Warren: Will follow Obama's policy on Iran, in a word, diplomacy

Iran is a bad actor. An Iran with nuclear weapons is a whole lot more dangerous than an Iran without nuclear weapons. President Obama realized this. The rest of the world realized this. So, President Obama worked with our allies and said, "Let's tell Iran they need to stop their nuclear program. We're going to put economic pressure on them until they do it." It showed that you can make diplomacy work.

Joe Biden: Putin wants to weaken NATO and democracy

Q: Russian President Vladimir Putin has interfered with Georgian, Ukrainian, French, German, U.K., and U.S. elections. He has occupied territories of Georgia and Ukraine. What will you do to end all of these attacks, which some have said are acts of war?

BIDEN: Well, I think they are. They're acts that are violating our sovereignty. I'm the guy who went over to our NATO colleagues and worked out an agreement before their last series of elections a year and a half ago, where we got everybody running for office to take a pledge that they would let anyone know that if there was any interference taking place, they would reject any outside help. And one of the very reasons why the president got impeached is because he went to outside folks, seeking help in our election. Putin is a guy who, in fact, is not anything remotely approaching a democrat with a small "d." His entire objective is to weaken Eastern Europe, bring down NATO, so that he does not have to face the constituency he faces now.

Joe Biden: We should not have abandoned the Kurds

Thousands of Kurds died defeating ISIS. And what happened? This president yielded to Erdogan and he said that we would withdraw our forces along the Turkish border between Turkey and Syria. You have Kurdish women holding up babies saying, please, don't leave us. Those of you who are military personnel, you saw those men and women in our military and uniform with their heads down. They're ashamed.
