Speeches at CPAC (2020s): on Crime

Louie Gohmert: People arrested for insurrection are political prisoners

Gohmert suggested that Pelosi was to blame for the violent siege that sent lawmakers fleeing for safety. "On January 6th, the sergeant at arms had turned down, on behalf of the speaker, having National Guard there to help protect the Capitol. Why did that happen? You think they were setting things up?" said Gohmert. As for the suspects in the attack, he portrayed them as political prisoners who are being denied access to 14,000 hours of surveillance footage that might help prove their innocence.

Ron DeSantis: We're a law-and-order state; reject weak on crime policies

We are a law-and-order state in the state of Florida. We reject weak on crime policies. We reject Soros-funded prosecutors. After the 2020 summer riots, we called up the national guard here immediately. We said we are not letting Florida's cities burn down. We have signed the strongest anti-rioting legislation in the country. In Florida, you're not getting a slap on the wrist. You're getting the inside of a jail cell.

Tom Cotton: If you don't have security, you don't have anything

I will never apologize for defending America. One of the first things I learned in the army, really one of the first things anyone learns in the army, is the five principles of patrolling, the most important of which is security. Because if you don't have security, you don't have anything. And security is what our brave police officers bring to our communities every single day across America. And that's why conservatives should never apologize for backing the blue.
