2020 Conventions: on Energy & Oil

Kamala Harris: Deadlines for reducing greenhouse gases & renewable energy

Q: Is the Green New Deal still your ultimate goal?

HARRIS: We need to have a goal that is based on timelines, about saying that we're going to have deadlines on when we're going to achieve greenhouse gas emission reduction, when we're going to have an investment in electric vehicles, and do what we need to do to invest in renewable energies, there's a whole plan about investing in infrastructure around renewable energies-- one million jobs will be created as a result of that.

Reform Party: At least 25% electricity from renewable sources by 2025

For the sake of national security we will finally break our addiction to foreign oil. The ARP will commit to bring an end to our total dependency on oil and move our country toward the use of clean and renewable energy. We recognize that any transition of this magnitude will require making certain interim environmental concessions plus modifications to laws and regulations over the next 15 years. We are committed to getting at least 25 percent of our electricity from renewable sources by 2025.

Andrew Yang: Decarbonize US economy by 2035

Yang said, "The magic of Joe Biden is that everything he does becomes the new reasonable."

"If he comes with an ambitious template to address climate change, all of a sudden, everyone is going to follow his lead." He's floated a climate plan that would decarbonize the US economy by 2035. Waleed Shahid, the communications director for Justice Democrats, told Vox that Biden's policy slate is "the most progressive platform of any Democratic nominee in the modern history of the party."

Joe Biden: Climate change not only a crisis but an enormous opportunity

We can, and we will, deal with climate change. It's not only a crisis, it's an enormous opportunity. An opportunity for America to lead the world in clean energy and create millions of new good-paying jobs in the process.

Michelle Lujan-Grisham: Climate change risks environmental annihilation

Grisham highlighted her state's approach to climate change, which includes a sweeping 2019 executive order that reduces greenhouse gas emissions in New Mexico by at least 45% by 2030. She's also encouraged state agencies to promote policies that push clean energy and reduce pollution. "We know time is running out to save our planet," she said. "We have the chance this November to end two existential crises: The Trump presidency and the environmental annihilation he represents."

Socialist Party: Use sustainable energy, stop fossil fuel pollution

Global warming, pollution, acidified and depleted oceans, fracking, critical drought, plastics choking the seas, nuclear weapons and waste--it is clear that capitalism and production for profit are destroying the planet and threatening all life. The crisis is already here, with the most vulnerable and oppressed areas bearing the brunt. Using truly sustainable energy and seizing the oil and coal companies to stop fossil fuel pollution, are urgent steps needed to reverse climate change.

Socialist Party: Stop destruction of Native lands by mining interests

Both major parties have continued to allow the destruction of Native lands by mining and corporate agricultural interests in blatant disregard of indigenous sovereign rights. 33% of Native children live in poverty and many of America's poorest counties are reservations. The crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and the over-incarceration of Native peoples shows the bankruptcy of capitalism from its earliest inception in the Americas until today.

Green Party: Free mass transit; reduce energy use 50%

The Green Party supports a transportation policy that emphasizes the use of mass transit and alternatives to the automobile and truck for transport. We call for major public investment in mass transportation, so that such systems are cheap or free to the public and are safe, accessible, and easily understandable to first-time users. We need ecologically sound forms of transportation that minimize pollution and maximize efficiency.

Adopt energy efficiency standards that reduce energy demand economy-wide by 50% over the next 20--30 years. The U.S. can make massive reductions in its energy use through a combination of conservation and efficiency measures. We don't actually need any additional power. Instead, we can and should reduce our consumption of power. Adopt a national zero waste policy. The less we consume and throw away, the less we will need to produce and replace.

Reform Party: Increase fossil fuels, but emphasize alternatives as well

Energy independence from foreign sources means that America's must invest both in increasing conventional domestic sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas but also must emphasize new technologies that make those resources more efficiently used and must drive toward the use of alternative energy technologies such as solar, wind, thermal depolymerization of organic waste, and biofuels.

Constitution Party: Reject man-made global warning, refuted by scientists

We call attention to the continuing need of the United States for a sufficient supply of energy for national security and for the immediate adoption of a policy of free market solutions to achieve energy independence for the United States. We call for abolishing the Department of Energy. The federal government should not interfere with the development of potential energy sources, including natural gas, hydroelectric power, solar energy, wind generators, and nuclear energy.

We wholeheartedly support realistic efforts to preserve the environment and reduce pollution. We reject the argument of the perceived threat of man-made global warming which has been refuted by a large number of scientists. The globalists are using the global warming threat to gain more control via worldwide sustainable development.
