2020 Conventions: on Principles & Values
Donald Trump:
Our country, blessed by God, has a special purpose
What united generations past was an unshakable confidence in America's destiny, and an unbreakable faith in the American People. They knew that our country is blessed by God, and has a special purpose in this world.
It is that conviction that inspired the formation of our union, our westward expansion, the abolition of slavery, the passage of civil rights, the space program, and the overthrow of fascism, tyranny and communism.
In the left's backward view, they do not see America as the most free, just, and exceptional nation on Earth. Instead, they see a wicked nation that must be punished for its sins. Our opponents say that redemption for
YOU can only come from giving power to THEM. This is a tired anthem spoken by every repressive movement throughout history. In America, we don't turn to government to restore our souls -- we put our faith in Almighty God.

Mike Pence:
The choice is whether America remains America
It's not so much whether America will be more conservative or more liberal, more Republican or more Democrat. The choice in this election is whether America remains America. It's whether we will leave to our children and our grandchildren
a country grounded in our highest ideals of freedom, free markets, and the unalienable right to life and liberty--or whether we will leave to our children and grandchildren a country that is fundamentally transformed into something else.

Nikki Haley:
Biden & Democrats still blaming America first
It's about an American ambassador to the United Nations and a speech she gave. She called for the re-election of the Republican president and called out his Democratic opponent, a former vice president from a failed administration. That ambassador
said, "Democrats always blame America first." The president was Ronald Reagan. Ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick's words are just as true today. Joe Biden and the Democrats are still blaming America first. Donald Trump has always put America first.

Nikki Haley:
We know that socialism has failed everywhere
A Biden/Harris administration would be much, much worse. Last time, Joe's boss was Obama. This time it would be Pelosi, Sanders, and the Squad. Their vision for America is socialism. And we know that socialism has failed everywhere.
They want to tell Americans how to live and what to think. They want a government takeover of health care. They want to ban fracking and kill millions of jobs. They want massive tax hikes on working families.

Nikki Haley:
Removed divisive symbol (Confederate flag) peacefully
Our state came face to face with evil. A white supremacist walked into Mother Emmanuel Church during bible study. Twelve African-Americans pulled up a chair and prayed with him for an hour. Then he began to shoot.
After that horrific tragedy, we didn't turn against each other. We came together, Black and white, Democrat and Republican. Together we made the hard choices needed to heal and removed a divisive symbol peacefully and respectfully.

Tim Scott:
Biden and Harris would turn US into "socialist utopia"
Make no mistake: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want a cultural revolution. A fundamentally different America. If we let them...they will turn our country into a socialist utopia...and history has taught us that path only leads
to pain and misery, especially for hard-working people hoping to rise. Instead, we must focus on the promise of the American journey.

Joe Biden:
VP should be the last one in the room on major decisions
Q: What would you ask of Vice President Harris?BIDEN: I asked her what Barack asked of me. I want you to be the last person in the room on every major decision because I know she'll not be intimidated by the Oval Office. I know she'll not be
reluctant to tell me exactly what she thinks. And I know she'll have a perspective--different in many cases than mine just by nature of who we are and our backgrounds and that's why I thought it was so important as well to have a woman as vice president.

Ordinary people, given half a chance, not a joke, half a chance, can do extraordinary things. They've never, ever, ever let the country down, given a chance.

Asking if 70+ year old is fit is legitimate question
Q: Trump's campaign has called you "diminished." How do you respond?BIDEN: Watch me. Mr. President, watch me. Look at us both, what we say, what we do, what we control, what we know, what kind of shape we're in. Come on. I think it's a legitimate
question to ask anybody over 70 years old whether or not they're fit and whether they're ready. But I just, only thing I can say to the American people, it's a legitimate question to ask anybody. Watch me.
Q: You have said that you are a transition
candidate. Does that mean a one-term president?
BIDEN: I want to make sure when this is over, we have a new Senate, we won back statehouses, we're in a position where we transition to a period of bringing people up to the visibility that they need
to get to be able to lead nationally. And that's about raising people up. And that's what I'm about.
Q: So you're leaving open the possibility you'll serve eight years if elected?
BIDEN: Absolutely.

Joe Biden:
President's job is to heal; country needs healing
BIDEN: The president's job is to heal. This country needs healing. I'll be a president who tells the truth, who takes responsibility and who in fact invites the opposition to come to the Oval Office and settle problems together.
The words of a president matters, no matter who he is. And it's about time we start to hear from a president that it's about uniting the country, bringing together-- it's going to be hard, nothing easy about it.

Kamala Harris:
Biden is my model for being a great vice president
HARRIS: Joe Biden is, for me, a model of what makes for a great vice president and the model for me if and when God willing we win this election. What he did as a partner to Barack Obama, what he did in terms of leading on very significant issues
in support of Barack Obama is really inspirational for me as a model of how I intend to do the job. We have a commitment to each other so in many ways after he chose me, I chose him too.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:
Trump represents fascism in the United States
Ocasio-Cortez's brief speech described the left as a mass movement not only fighting for "guaranteed health care, higher education, living wages, and labor rights" but also "striving to recognize and repair the wounds of racial injustice, colonization,
misogyny, and homophobia."Bernie Sanders argued that "at its most basic, this election is about preserving our democracy." Likewise, in a debrief following her comments, AOC said voting for Biden was about "stopping fascism in the United States--that
is what Donald Trump represents."
They are forming an alliance, however uneasy, with establishment Democrats to defeat Trump.
This type of multiracial coalition-building is something that Ocasio-Cortez has excelled at in her congressional career.
Regularly advocating for anti-racism, reparations, and police reform on her social media platforms and on the Hill, she has drawn comparisons to activists like Martin Luther King Jr. and politicians like Shirley Chisholm.

Presidency means reverence for democracy placed in his care
[Keynote speech at DNC]: "I have sat in the Oval Office with both of the men who are running for president. I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my policies. I did hope, for the sake of our country, that
Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously; that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care," Mr. Obama said. "But he never did."

[Excerpts of DNC speech]: "I know how mean and cruel and unfair life can be sometimes. But I've learned two things: first, your loved one may have left this earth, but they'll never leave your heart. They'll always be with you.
You'll always hear them. And second, I found the best way through pain and loss and grief is to find purpose."

Joe Biden:
I will be an ally of the light, not the darkness
[Nomination acceptance speech at DNC]: "The current president has cloaked America in darkness for much too long," Biden said. "If you entrust me with the presidency, I will draw on the best of us, not the worst. I will be an ally of the light,
not the darkness.""In this dark moment, I believe we're poised to make great progress again. That we can find the light once more," Biden later continued. "This is a battle we will win, and we'll do it together."

Joe Biden:
I believe America ready to face difficult crises
[Excerpts of DNC speech]: "History has delivered us to one of the most difficult moments America has ever faced," he said. "The worst pandemic in over 100 years. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
The most compelling call for racial justice since the 60s. And the undeniable realities and accelerating threats of climate change. So, the question for us is simple: are we ready? I believe we are."

Joe Biden:
Member of the same club: those who stutter
Perhaps the most moving moment of the night came when Brayden Harrington, a 13-year-old child with a stutter, described Biden's kindness to him. "A few months ago, I met him in New Hampshire," Harrington said. "He told me that we were members of
the same club. We stutter." Biden liked Harrington, shared with him the book of poems he himself had used to practice his speech. The comparison with Trump, who has publicly mocked people for their weight, their disabilities, their height, was sharp.

Joe Biden:
Four historic crises, all at the same time: a perfect storm
History has delivered us to one of the most difficult moments America has ever faced. Four historic crises. All at the same time. A perfect storm. The worst pandemic in over 100 years. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
The most compelling call for racial justice since the '60s. And the undeniable realities and accelerating threats of climate change. So, the question for us is simple: Are we ready? I believe we are. We must be.I will be a Democratic candidate,
I will be an American president. I will work as hard for those who didn't support me as I will for those who did. That's the job of a president. To represent all of us, not just our base or our party. This is not a partisan moment.
This must be an American moment. America isn't just a collection of clashing interests of red states or blue states. We're so much bigger than that. We're so much better than that.

Joe Biden:
We have a great purpose: to be a light to the world again
We have a great purpose as a nation: To open the doors of opportunity to all Americans. To save our democracy. To be a light to the world once again. To finally live up to and make real the words written in the sacred documents
that founded this nation, that all men and women are created equal. Endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights. Among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Socialist Party:
Make the essentials of life into constitutional rights
The U.S. has more than enough so that all the essentials of life--food, housing, water, education, health care and a job or basic income can be guaranteed rights--rather than distributed only for profit. Create a completely free and public healthcare
system. Make education free--cancel all student debt. Fully fund rebuilding of the infrastructure in transport, water and utility systems. Stop all foreclosures and evictions. End all discrimination based on ability/disability.

Art is an integral part of daily life, not a commodity
The Socialist Party believes that art is an integral part of daily life and should not be treated as a commodity produced by the activity of an elite group. We support guaranteed incomes and grants for artists and performers.
We call for full funding of community and school arts programs for people of all ages. We call for full funding to keep libraries, museums, cultural centers, and historic sites open and accessible to all.

Democratic Party:
For religious pluralism, not exemptions for discrimination
Democrats celebrate America's history of religious pluralism and tolerance, and recognize the countless acts of service of our faith communities, as well as the paramount importance of maintaining the separation between
church and state enshrined in our Constitution. We will reject the Trump Administration's use of broad religious exemptions to allow businesses, medical providers, social service agencies, and others to discriminate.

Free press essential; look at antitrust impact of mergers
The free press is essential to our free democracy. Democrats roundly reject President Trump's denigration of the free and independent press, which has endangered reporters' lives, helped fuel conspiracy theories, and deepened distrust between
Americans and their government. Democrats are concerned about the potentially harmful effects of corporate consolidation and will direct federal antitrust agencies to investigate the economic impacts of mergers in the media industry.

Reform Party:
Require highest ethical standards and oversight
Highest ethical standards and oversight means that elected officials must have as their first loyalty the entire citizenry they represent, not just the people who funded their campaign or who pad their retirement. This also means that there needs
to be clearer separation between elected officials and lobbying and special interest groups. We cannot continue the endless recycling of people between elected positions and lobbying groups where there is the clear appearance of conflict of interest.

Constitution Party:
Acknowledges blessing of Jesus Christ as ruler of US
The Constitution Party gratefully acknowledges the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as Creator, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe and of these United States. We hereby appeal to Him for mercy, aid, comfort, guidance and the protection of
His Providence as we work to restore and preserve these United States. This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions but on a foundation of Christian principles and values.
Congress must exert the power it possesses to prohibit all federal courts from hearing cases which Congress deems to be outside federal jurisdiction pursuant to Article III, section 2 of the Constitution.
We particularly support all the legislation which would remove from Federal appellate review jurisdiction matters involving acknowledgement of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government.

Constitution Party:
Opposed to government involvement in gambling
Gambling increases crimes, destroys families, grows governmental bureaucracies, exploits those who are addicted and leaches the economic prosperity out of our communities. We are opposed to government sponsorship, involvement in or
promotion of gambling such as lotteries, casinos or subsidization of Native American casinos. We call for the repeal of federal legislation that usurps state and local authority regarding authorization and regulation of tribal casinos in the states.

Challenge cult of omnipotent state, defend individual rights
We challenge the cult of the omnipotent state and defend the rights of the individual. We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion
over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose.
