2020 Conventions: on Welfare & Poverty

Joe Biden: Help minorities buy homes, start businesses, amass wealth

BIDEN: We're going to see that 23% of the money that goes into government contracts should go to minority firms. We're going to provide for a $15,000 tax credit for anyone buying the first term homebuyer, designed to allow African Americans and minorities to be able to get into the market to build wealth. We're going to provide for a significant increase in what Barack & I started for entrepreneurs and minority entrepreneurs. It's about putting people in a position where they can amass wealth.

Socialist Party: Increase housing subsides; allow rent control

We call for a vast increase in Section 8 housing subsidies as one element of major public investment in the construction of low cost, scattered site, community-based, high quality housing. We call for rent control for all rental units, and the right of tenants to organize. We call for an end to home foreclosures.

Democratic Party: Take aggressive steps to increase affordable housing

Housing in America should be stable, accessible, safe, healthy, energy efficient, and, above all, affordable. No one should have to spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing, so families have ample resources left to meet their other needs and save for retirement. Democrats believe the government should take aggressive steps to increase the supply of housing, especially affordable housing, and address long-standing economic and racial inequities in our housing markets.

Constitution Party: Welfare provisions misdirected & morally destructive

The message of Christian charity is fundamentally at odds with the concept of welfare maintenance as a right. In many cases, welfare provisions by the Federal government are not only misdirected, but morally destructive. It is the intended purpose of civil government to safeguard life, liberty and property--not to redistribute wealth. Such redistribution is contrary to the Biblical command against theft.
