Oprah Winfrey in Interviews during 2017-2019

On Tax Reform: Resents the high taxes the government makes her pay

She may be worth $2.8 billion, according to Forbes, but don't count TV megastar Oprah Winfrey in with other billionaires who feel they aren't taxed enough. Then there was her interview in 2011 with Piers Morgan when she addressed the pain writing checks to the IRS for over $100,000. "The most pain I feel - my accountants will tell you this - every time I write a check to the IRS. It's a ceremony. They come in - for years they came in with wine - now they come in with tequila."

On Civil Rights: Define marriage to include monogamous same-sex couples

Oprah explained on her television program in 1997, "The God I serve doesn't care if you're tall or short or whether you were born black or Asian or gay." The conflation of race and sexual behavior has led Oprah to eschew aspects of traditional Christian sexual morality and to support the redefinition of marriage to include monogamous same-sex couples.

On Gun Control: Advocate for increased restrictions on gun control

On the Second Amendment, Oprah supports increased restrictions on gun ownership. During her 2013 Harvard commencement speech, Winfrey insisted, "The vast majority of people in this country believe in stronger background checks. Because they realize that we can uphold the Second Amendment and also reduce that violence that is robbing us of our children." Despite Oprah's insistence, there is little evidence that "stronger background checks" would have prevented any major American shooting.

On Immigration: Backs pathway to citizenship for all the illegal aliens

On illegal immigration, Oprah supports amnesty for all current illegal aliens. During that same speech at Harvard, she endorsed "a clear path to citizenship for the 12 million undocumented immigrants who reside in this country. It's possible to both enforce our laws and, at the same time, embrace the words on the Statue of Liberty that have welcomed generations of huddled masses to our shores. We can do both." Of course, one cannot simultaneously enforce and ignore democratically enacted law.

On Principles & Values: Follows avant-garde version of an all-accepting religion

On matters of faith, Oprah grew up attending a Baptist church but later became disillusioned and settled into New Age narcissism. She explained on her television program in 1997, "The God I serve doesn't care if you're tall or short or whether you were born black or Asian or gay." The conflation of race and sexual behavior has led Oprah to eschew aspects of traditional Christian sexual morality.

On War & Peace: Gave post-9/11 platform to anti-war advocates

On foreign policy, Oprah responded to the September 11 terrorist attacks with a five-part series on her program discouraging war in Iraq. Despite Saddam Hussein's demonstrated possession of weapons of mass destruction, Iraq's violation of countless international resolutions, and a decades-long American policy of regime change in Iraq, Oprah gave her platform exclusively to anti-war advocates such as Michael Moore, Fawaz Gerges, and Thomas Friedman.

On Education: Changing the way people think starts with education

The other way it started - the reason why I wanted to do a school is because I had tried other things and failed. I had tried creating my own Big Sisters program when I first moved to Chicago. I tried moving families out of the projects to give them a new lease, a chance on life, and what I recognized with all of my failed projects is that unless you change the way people think, you don't change them. You have to start at the core of how they think. So that's why education is so important to me.

On Welfare & Poverty: Used lessons learned growing up in poverty to propel herself

She was born to a single teenage mother on welfare in rural Mississippi. She lived in poverty and suffered abuse for years. Oprah's father made education a high priority for Oprah. "My father turned my life around by insisting that I be more than I was," Oprah said in an˙interview. "I am so grateful for my years literally living in poverty," she replied, "because it makes the experience of creating success and building success that much more rewarding."

On Abortion: Too young for Roe V. Wade to avoid botched abortion

Oprah HAS been a mother--she has candidly spoken throughout her career of getting pregnant at age 14, hiding her condition, attempting a botched abortion and eventually giving birth to a child who died soon after. She has said, "When the baby died I knew that was my second chance. So I went back to school and nobody knew." She took that second chance and went on a different path in her life.

On Civil Rights: Credits the civil rights movement for her pathway to success

Oprah has always credited the sacrifice and service of the men and women involved in the civil rights movement for paving a path for a poor African- American woman from the South to transform into a beloved billionaire businesswoman. In turn, Oprah's success has inspired millions more. "Oprah" opened discussions about race in America.
