Interviews during 2017-2019: on Technology
Gloria La Riva:
Fund public transportation, high-speed rail
The Socialist Party calls for extensive public transportation in both urban and rural areas. We call for the creation of a fully funded high-speed national rail system with fares set low enough to be a viable alternative to the use of the automobile.
We call for an end to the expansion of the interstate highway system and the reduction of combustion engine/auto based transport.

Howie Hawkins:
We support all efforts to achieve net neutrality
- We support all efforts to achieve net neutrality. Internet users should be able to access any lawful web content they choose and use any applications they choose, without restrictions or limitations imposed by their Internet service provider or
government, except for restrictions that exist to prevent spam e-mail, viruses, and similar content that will harm the provider's network or internet access devices.
- Return ownership and control of the electromagnetic spectrum to the public.
-
We urge the public to reclaim the airwaves. The privatization of the broadcast airwaves has caused serious deformations of our politics and culture.
-
End the privatization of broadcast frequencies and reserve them for the creation of new not-for-profit community broadcasters around the country and for broadband and wifi networks owned and operated by cities, counties and towns.

Howie Hawkins:
Protect software by copyright, not patent
The Green Party supports protection of software (free or proprietary) by means of the copyright. We strongly oppose granting of software patents. Mathematical algorithms are discovered, not invented, by humans;
therefore, they are not patentable. Format patents only exist to restrain competition, and the harm falls disproportionately on programmers who work independently or for the smallest employers.

Don Blankenship:
Reject PATRIOT Act and all such laws
The USA PATRIOT Act permits arrests without warrants and secret detention without counsel, wiretaps without court supervision, searches and seizures without notification to the individual whose property is invaded and a host of other violations.
Since we will no longer have a free nation while the federal government can violate our rights, we call for the rejection of all such laws.

Amy Klobuchar:
Users of social media should be able to control their data
Those companies for so long have said, we have your back. Meanwhile, your data is getting shared. You send an e-mail to someone, and the next thing, you see an advertisement about the thing you sent the e-mail on. So that's why I want privacy
legislation to basically say, hey, we have a right over our data. Stop messing around with us, and then also put in plain language what your rights are, instead of 50 pages. And then, finally, notify us when there's breaches.

Jay Inslee:
Regulate internet to protect privacy & net neutrality
We have to do things that will protect Americans in this new Internet age, one of which is to protect our privacy. We passed one of, if not the best privacy bills in the United States, so that our privacy cannot be shopped and marketed and commoditized.
That's extremely important, given what's going on in the world. Second, we have to protect our net neutrality. And I'm proud to have signed the first law in the United States by statute that will protect our net neutrality.

Bill Weld:
Teach skill sets for tech jobs of the future
25 percent of the jobs in the country are about to disappear because of artificial intelligence and robotics and drones and machine learning and autonomous vehicles. Nobody is planning ahead for that, and it would entail a lot of work to make sure that
people get the skillsets to get the replacement jobs when they show up around the same time. If we play that right with our educational system, the people that lose those jobs could wind up with higher wages than they had before.
