Blake Moore in 2020 House elections

On Abortion: Strong pro-lifer supporting abstinence and adoption

We need to build national policies that reflect the Utah way of life. Supporting families isn't just about being pro-life, it's about being pro-adoption. My 18-year old nephew's fastball has almost reached 90 mph, and the first reason he can vie for a college scholarship this spring, is because his birth mother chose life. We need to continue to promote abstinence, provide education to help people avoid unplanned pregnancies, and identify sensible options so life is everyone's choice.

On Budget & Economy: Rely on state and local stakeholders for recovery parameters

I support the CARES Act and the Payment Protection Program, but I do not feel we took a strategic approach to the way we applied it. By employing smarter policies, we could have created a tailored approach to support those that needed it most. I want to point out that programs of this size cannot be effectively run at the federal level. We need to rely more on state and local stakeholders to properly implement them.

On Education: Local control for K-12 and workforce needs for higher ed

We must limit the federal government's role in K-12 education, and keep it confined to providing resources and promoting evidence-based best practices so educators and students' families can best serve our children at the state and local level. We also need to ensure Utah's higher education institutions continue to align with workforce needs by providing relevant and affordable education.

On Environment: When setting environmental policy, prioritize state rights

Utah and other western states are at huge disadvantage with lopsided land ownership being controlled by the federal government. As your Congressman, tourism, recreation, energy diversity, agricultural opportunity, and conservation will always remain a driving force for decision making. I believe public lands will benefit greatly from the current conversation of states' rights and local decision-making.

On Foreign Policy: Do not allow China to take advantage of America

Our response to China in the wake of this pandemic will be the single biggest issue to tackle in the coming years. We are seeing this with reports of deception from the Chinese government. Having served as a foreign service officer in the intelligence and diplomatic communities, I've seen how foreign actors take advantage of America's support. On day one, I will work to bring China to task and help ensure America leads a global response to rebuild what we've lost these past few months.

On Gun Control: Fully supports the second amendment and right to bear arms

This isn't just about being "pro-guns." It is about fulfilling the proper role of government, which is to protect our rights, not grant them. I fully support the second amendment and I will defend our constitutional rights to bear arms and use data, not sensationalism, to promote continued safety in our communities.

On Health Care: Need to do more at federal level to address mental health

Furthermore, we need to have a real discussion about mental health policy. I sat next to a local representative on a flight 18 months ago and was proud to hear of his work on establishing a nationwide three-digit hotline for suicide prevention. It helped me recognize the good our Congress can do when we work together. We need to reverse the stigma and provide useful tools for families and schools to better identify warning signs of mental health.

On Health Care: Replace Obama Care with market-driven health care

We need to cut the fat within our healthcare system. I will work to replace the Affordable Care Act with a market-driven solution that gives more flexibility to the states and focuses on the following three pillars:
  1. improve choices and lower costs, while protecting vulnerable Americans;
  2. give flexibility and resources to states to achieve those goals; and
  3. ensure people can opt into the private coverage of their choice.

On Immigration: First secure border, then encourage legal immigration

Before any immigration reform can happen, we must secure the border. Once we can secure the border, coming to a solution on reform will be much easier. Streamlining legal immigration will benefit both the immigrants and the American economy, and those who go through the process legally will not be punished by those who do not. We need to enforce the laws we have, establish an understanding of our current state, and create a sensible approach to solving a problem that has evaded us for decades.
