David Valadao in 2020 House elections

On Budget & Economy: Balancing the budget , cutting debt will help the economy

Today's government spends, borrows, and taxes its people too much. Our national debt has surpassed $23 trillion, over $65,000 for every man, woman, and child in America. David strongly opposes wasteful projects, such as the construction of a high-speed rail system throughout California which will cost tax payers billions of dollars with little added benefit. Responsible spending reductions to tackle our national debt will strengthen the economy.

On Government Reform: Less regulation and lower taxes will create jobs

The unemployment rate in the San Joaquin Valley is nearly double the national average. David knows that our economy needs to work for rural and working families, not just big cities. Small businesses are the backbone of our nation's economy and needless regulations and a greater tax burden make it harder for them to hire. David will work to pass common sense legislation that will put Americans, especially those in the Central Valley, back to work.

On Health Care: Market-based competition is best health care solution

David believes the best healthcare is a market-based approach to healthcare reform that provides individuals with competitive choices and addresses the needs of those unable to afford healthcare insurance. It is David's priority to ensure your healthcare remains in the hands of you and your doctor, not the federal government.

On Immigration: Develop path to citizenship and do not separate families

David supports a reasonable and responsible pathway to citizenship for those wishing to enter our country and those already here. This will allow many undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows. Developing a guest worker program that will enable access to a reliable workforce is crucial to our agricultural economy. We recognize the importance of family and acknowledge the danger of separating families. We should focus on undocumented immigrants who have committed serious crimes.

On Immigration: Continue construction of wall to stop border emergency

Excerpts from a letter signed by 12 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives to Vice President Kamala Harris:

We are alarmed by the staggering number of migrants that have been apprehended while illegally crossing the southwest border during this first 100 days. We are extremely concerned that the President ordered a 60-day pause on the border wall construction. [That's a month overdue; hence we] insist that funds appropriated for border security be used immediately to address this crisis.

Border wall construction funds were appropriated by the Congress and should be spent as provided in law. As you can see by the unprecedented number of apprehensions reported by Customs and Border Protection, we are in a state of emergency that requires action, not delay.
