Sean Casten in 2020 House elections

On Energy & Oil: We must lower our greenhouse gas emissions

I ran for public office to combat the climate crisis and in Congress, and I'm proud to serve on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and work every day to pass meaningful climate legislation. First and foremost, we must lower our greenhouse gas emissions and remove 100 ppm of CO2 from the atmosphere. Ultimately, I would like to see a regulatory environment that prices CO2 and provides direct economic incentives for CO2 reduction.

On Health Care: Lower drug prices

Casten discussed his legislation to lower drug prices. "[The bill] would limit the ability to raise the prices of drugs by no more than the rate of inflation every year, and it would permanently cap the out-of-pocket expense that seniors [pay] today by a few thousand dollars for drugs," he said.

On Social Security: People with special needs losing Social Security

One of the most recurring issues he said he's heard over the course of 25 town halls is how people with special needs lose their Social Security if they earn even slightly above the poverty level wage. "That's the second or third time I've heard that in the last month or so," Casten said. "That gets your spidey sense tingling a little bit to go back and see what might be going on on that front."
