We will repair our alliances and engage with the world once again, not to meet yesterday's challenges, but today's and tomorrow's. American leadership must meet this new moment of advancing authoritarianism, including the growing ambitions of China to rival the United States and the determination of Russia to damage and disrupt our democracy.

We must meet the new moment accelerating global challenges--from the pandemic to the climate crisis to nuclear proliferation--challenging the will only to be solved by nations working together and in common. We can't do it alone. Jeanne Shaheen: Public cares about rights of women & girls in Afghanistan

It's important to point out that the United States is the first that has actually codified this Women, Peace, and Security Act. We know when women are at the table that negotiations are 64% less likely to fail; that agreements are 35% more likely to last for 15 years or more. There is good data to show that having women at the table, which most of the women here would agree to, really makes a difference in terms of how peace is negotiated, conflict is negotiated, and then how lasting it is.

I've had a chance to quiz our military leadership there about this. Every time I've had a chance to do that, they have reaffirmed the commitment to Afghan women and girls. As I talk to people in New Hampshire, where the war in Afghanistan is not uppermost in people's minds, whenever you talk about Afghanistan the first thing people talk about is are we going to keep our commitment to the women and the girls in Afghanistan. The public cares about this issue.

Andy Martin: Be tough on China, but talk to China

Chinese imperialism and the rebirth of the Chinese dictatorship under the current maximum leader. My team believes China is an unstable economy, and if China falters, as inevitably it will, the consequences could be significant. I studied Chinese among many other languages and lived for a time in Hong Kong, so I can both be "tough" on China as well as being someone they feel comfortable talking to. Because of my experience in China/Asia, I could be a massive help to Pres. Trump in dealing with China.

Jeanne Shaheen: Diplomacy is the preferred resolution to potential conflicts

Jeanne believes that diplomacy is the preferred resolution to potential conflicts and has a particular focus on nuclear nonproliferation. She played a leading role in the passage of the New START Treaty to reduce the threat from nuclear weapons, and believes it is critical that Iran be prevented from developing nuclear weapons.
