2020 NH Senatorial race: on War & Peace

Joe Biden: Burmese military should relinquish power they have seized

Over the past few days, we've been in close cooperation with our allies and partners, and {Republican Senate] Leader McConnell, to bring together the international community to address the military coup in Burma. We are united in our resolve.

There can be no doubt: In a democracy, force should never seek to overrule the will of the people or attempt to erase the outcome of a credible election.

The Burmese military should relinquish power they have seized, release the advocates and activists and officials they have detained, lift the restrictions on telecommunications, and refrain from violence.

We will work with our partners to support restoration of democracy and the rule of law, and impose consequences on those responsible.

Joe Biden: Support UN-imposed ceasefire in Yemen

Defense Secretary Austin will be leading a Global Posture Review of our forces so that our military footprint is appropriately aligned with our foreign policy and national security priorities. While this review is taking place, we're stepping up our diplomacy to end the war in Yemen--a war which has created a humanitarian and strategic catastrophe. I've asked my Middle East team to ensure our support for the United Nations-led initiative to impose a ceasefire, open humanitarian channels, and restore long-dormant peace talks.

To underscore our commitment, we are ending all American support for offensive operations in the war in Yemen, including relevant arms sales. At the same time, Saudi Arabia faces missile attacks, UAV strikes, and other threats from Iranian-supplied forces in multiple countries. We're going to continue to support and help Saudi Arabia defend its sovereignty and its territorial integrity and its people.

Don Bolduc: New Hampshire needs a full-service VA hospital

New Hampshire needs a full-service VA hospital. In a state that is home to more than 100 thousand veterans and active duty members of the armed forces, it is beyond time we got this done. I believe we owe it to New Hampshire's veteran community to receive the care they need without the burden and cost of traveling out of state. From mental health issues, addiction, and/or chronic pain as a result of injuries suffered in the line of duty, access to quality care is non-negotiable.

Gloria Bromell Tinubu: Problem in the VA is leadership; need bottom up solution

"Every (Veterans Affairs) medical center I've been in, the problem is bureaucracy and the problem is the leadership above them," Bolduc said. "The people inside the VA who work there every single day are great people and do great things for our veterans. We have to bring the programs down to the community. All our problems are going to get solved from the bottom up, not the top down."

Andy Martin: Keep America talking, not shooting

I was/am a Cold War warrior. It is important to remember the Cold War avoided war. There were flare-ups, but no great outbreak of hostilities. President Trump has a tough Russia policy but he has undermined his own efforts with occasional lapses of rhetoric. I am a strong supporter of our intelligence and counterintelligence agencies and a powerful military option, to ensure we will never have to use it. I am the only candidate in either party that has seen the face of war close up, something I do not enjoy talking about. I will keep America safe but to the utmost extent possible I will keep America talking, not shooting. I am the only Republican that vigorously opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003, I lived in Baghdad after the invasion, and I saw the mess we created by believing our own b.s. What a tragedy.
