Survey of 2020 Presidential campaign websites: on Families & Children

Mike Bloomberg: Expand Head Start; and at-home care for at-risk infants

As president, Mike will triple the number of children served by Early Head Start, which provides child care to low-income infants and toddlers, and expand Head Start to reach more three to-five-year olds. As president, Mike will work to streamline our country's patchwork approach to early learning. He will guarantee access to full-day preschool for all three- and four-year-olds, so that every child is ready to succeed in Kindergarten.

In an effort to improve the health of at-risk infants and children, Mike's plan will increase the numbers of low-income families who receive free, voluntary nurse home visits by boosting funding for the Health Resources and Services Administration's Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program. This program has been shown to lower maternal mortality rates and increase the self-sufficiency of families down the road.

Mike Bloomberg: Guarantee 12 weeks of paid family leave

Mike will secure 12 weeks of paid family leave for all workers by supporting the FAMILY Act. Mike's plan makes access to paid family leave equitable, gender neutral and available to workers of all incomes. Mike's plan enforces anti-retaliation protections for workers who take paid family leave.

Joe Sestak: Increase nutrition assistance for needy families

I believe deeply that there is no place for poverty in the richest country in the world. All Americans should have access to food, shelter, clean water, safe neighborhoods, quality medical care, and education. As President, I will do everything in my power to help people to move from poverty to prosperity.

Joe Sestak: Authored successful increase in funding for autism

In Congress, Joe pursued healthcare issues ranging from pediatric cancer to mental health parity, as well as autism as he authored the first successful increase in funding for autism in 12 years.

He advanced seniors' quality of life - including authoring and passing the first Elder Abuse Victims legislation in 17 years--and veterans' educational and healthcare expansion.

Marianne Williamson: Maternity/paternity leave; free prenatal care and childcare

As long as there is a dearth of women in positions of political power, this chronic tilting of American priorities toward short-term economic interests as opposed to humanitarian values is understandable. As long as women are basically invisible, children are invisible as well. A Williamson Administration would be not only a victory for women, but it would also be a victory for our children, and for our future as a nation. As president, I would advocate for the following:

Andrew Yang: Who you love and how you love are up to you

Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes under the law, receiving all the federal protections afforded under the Constitution and law. Who you love and how you love are up to you. The law should recognize and protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans individuals. I've always been pro-gay marriage; why should straight people have all of the fun? People are people and all love is beautiful.

Andrew Yang: Include family counseling in federal healthcare plans

Marriage rates have plummeted across the board in America. And if you do get married, it's tough to stay together through all of the stresses that accompany marriage and particularly child-rearing. Any couple that stays together is a win for the next generation. We should support families who want to stay together in any way we can.

Andrew Yang: All other advanced countries have paid family leave policy

It's embarrassing and unconscionable that in the most advanced country in the world we don't account for something as basic as needing to spend time with your child when he or she is born. This drives mothers out of the workforce prematurely and impedes healthy development of infants, which is something we all pay for. We need to catch up to the civilized world and mandate paid family leave.
