Survey of 2020 Presidential campaign websites: on Jobs

Gloria La Riva: Close wage gap; end gender division of labor

Stop the attack on women's reproductive rights and defend Roe v. Wade. Women must have the fundamental right to choose & control their own bodies. Women still earn 22 percent less than men, and the gap is even more severe for Black and Latina women. Close the wage gap and end the gender division of labor.

Rocky De La Fuente: Government can't create jobs, but can influence economy

The government cannot create jobs, but it can influence the economic environment. We need to rebalance the relationship between regulation, taxation, and economic expansion so that the private sector can create new jobs and attract old ones that have since migrated overseas. Congress and the President should push for federal legislation to repair and replace infrastructure. Massive infrastructure projects would create tremendous job growth throughout the nation.

Mike Bloomberg: Raise minimum wage; pay Earned Income Tax Credit monthly

Mike's plan will enhance the Earned Income Tax Credit, pay it monthly and pay more where it's most needed. Mike will also increase the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, linked to growth in earnings, and ensure affordable child care, paid family leave and the right to sue employers for harassment and discrimination. And his plan will grant all workers--including gig, contract and franchise employees--the right to organize and bargain collectively.

Tom Steyer: Most people are denied a fair paycheck, while CEOs get rich

The Right to a Living Wage: America has always strived to be a nation where everyone can rise as far as their potential will take them.

Over the last forty years, I've seen America digress and move away from the forward momentum of progress that we had collectively achieved as a nation. Today, our economy booms but the average budget tightens.

Most people are denied a fair paycheck and the life of dignity it provides. We've gone from a place where workers were considered part of the company, to where workers are considered a cost to the company.

In 1978, CEO pay was roughly 30 times that of typical worker salaries in the United States. These days? It's 271 times. This is wrong--pure and simple. Every American must be guaranteed a living wage, because economic fairness is essential to the freedom to pursue opportunity. No one should be forced to work three jobs just to survive, and no one should see their raise eaten up by the rising cost of living.

Tom Steyer: Corporations hold down wages; unions get fair return

Americans value freedom--and real freedom requires an economy that works for everyone. Freedom means being able to make a living and have time for a life--time to take a loved one to the doctor, attend a parent/teacher conference, spend time with family, and retire in dignity.

But our economy is dangerously out of balance. The wealthy and big corporations have rigged the rules so they profit at the expense of hard-working Americans. They hold down wages, take away our right to join together in union, and take advantage of favorable tax laws while working American families struggle just to put food on their tables. It's simple: when all the money goes to the wealthy few, working families struggle to get by.

NextGen America is working to make sure that everyone gets a fair shake, so we all have the freedom to join together in union and negotiate for a fair return on our work, affordable health care, and a fair tax code.

Joe Sestak: Top priority is quality jobs with fair wages

There is no task more important for policymakers than ensuring that all Americans can find quality jobs with fair wages. As President, I promise to do everything in my power to make certain the United States will be able to compete in an increasingly globalized world. I will always be committed to building a world-class infrastructure, educating and training (and re-training) American workers, securing for small businesses the tools and funding they need to succeed, developing new green industries, and reinvigorating the manufacturing base of our economy.

Joe Sestak: Supports Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

I have been particularly focused on supporting women in the workplace and women entrepreneurs. I co-sponsored and voted for both the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. As Vice Chair of the Small Business Committee, I introduced and passed in the House the Small Business Entrepreneurial Development Programs Act, which strengthened the SBA grant program for small business development centers to help the 30% of small businesses which are owned by women. I also co-sponsored legislation ending barriers to healthcare encountered by women veterans by developing a comprehensive plan to better address their needs and also require better training for medical professionals to understand female veterans' unique needs.

Mike Gravel: Right to Own: employees can buy out companies that close

Job insecurity is a terrifying thing, and our economic system mandates that businesses shut down their stores, lay off their employees, and close their offices in a never-ending cycle of feast and famine. But while businesses come and go, people's livelihoods don't have to. Based on the U.K. Labor Party's policy of the same name, the Right to Own would be a policy of employees being the first to be able to buy out a company when it's going under or being sold. They have the right of first refusal: whether it's being bought by another company or going out of business, the employees will be able to buy out their workplace and ensure that they get to control their own business, income, life, and livelihood.

The United States should institute a policy of the Right to Own, ensuring that, when a company is being sold or is going out of business, the first group that has the chance to buy out the business's assets and IP are the workers themselves.

Wayne Messam: Invest in training the entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow

When I'm President, repealing the Trump tax breaks for the wealthy will be at the top of my agenda. I've built a small business, and as Mayor, overseen one of the fastest growing economies in the nation. I championed a living wage for city workers, attracted high-paying jobs for Floridians, fought to bring manufacturing jobs back from China, and created jobs myself.

It's time we had a President who invests in training the entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow. Under my administration, we would bring uncertainty for American workers and businesses to an end, by pushing to make it illegal to shut down the government to score political points.

When I'm President, we will establish an economic plan to soften the blow of the coming tech advancements on working and middle class Americans, and will encourage young people to start their own businesses as a pathway to success and alternative to college.

Steve Bullock: Represented workers as labor lawyer; fight for minimum wage

Bullock has spent his career fighting on behalf of workers, students and families. Before serving in public office he represented workers as a labor lawyer and as a private citizen led the successful fight to raise Montana's minimum wage. With Washington, D.C. increasingly divided by partisanship, Bullock has moved Montana forward by bringing people together.
