On Abortion: Resist any effort to restrict or limit reproductive rights

Abortion is a moral issue, but I do not believe the government of the US has the right to legislate our private morals. I believe the decision of whether or not to have an abortion lies solely with the pregnant woman, according to the dictates of her conscience. I do not feel the government has an appropriate right to deny or restrict that decision.

Therefore, I would vigorously resist any effort to restrict, limit, or diminish the reproductive rights and freedoms granted by Roe v. Wade.

On Civil Rights: Expand LGBTQ rights to end discrimination

Our Declaration of Independence holds that the inalienable rights of, "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," are endowed to ALL humans by their creator at birth. In 2015, marriage equality became the law of the land, yet there is still no federal law explicitly protecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities from discrimination. These communities, therefore, do not enjoy the full breadth of freedoms that this country espouses to guarantee to each and every citizen.

This is not only unacceptable; this is in direct violation of our founding principles.

Generation after generation, people have fought to rid our country of the "except for's." "Except for blacks," "except for women," and so forth. Today, we are challenged by the ongoing prejudice that seeks to repudiate the fundamental American dedication to freedom and equality for all. "Except for them" is a stain on our national character.

On Civil Rights: $200 billion for reparations for slavery

Just as Germany has paid $89 Billion in reparations to Jewish organizations since WW2, the US should pay reparations for slavery. A debt unpaid is still a debt unpaid, even if it's 150 years later. The legacy of that injustice lives on, with racist policies infused into our systems even to this day. From employment and housing discrimination, to equal access to quality education in underserved communities, to police brutality/prejudice, to lack of fair lending practices, to lack of access to quality healthcare, to insecure voting rights, America has not yet completed the task of healing our racial divide.

For that reason, I propose a $200 billion-$500 billion plan of reparations for slavery, the money to be disbursed over a period of 20 years. An esteemed council of African-American leaders would determine the educational and economic projects to which the money would be given.

Racism is an American character defect, for which we must atone, make amends, and be willing to change.

On Crime: New Department for domestic violence prevention efforts

As president, I would support the establishment of a US Department of Domestic Peace-Building in order to coordinate domestic violence prevention efforts in conjunction with the Department of Justice and other relevant agencies. Throughout America there are extraordinary and extraordinarily successful peace-building efforts, whose efficacy would be exponentially increased through a higher level of coordination and government support.

While some would argue that such programs would "cost too much," the reality is that they decrease the losses caused by violence in the US economy. Diversion and mentoring programs produced $3.36 of benefits for every dollar spent, aggression replacement training produced $10 of benefits for every dollar spent, and multi-systemic therapy produced $13 of benefits for every dollar spent--in terms of reduced violence, crime and the cost to taxpayers.

On Education: Universal pre-school; more teacher retention programs

On Education: Free college via public service; and student loan amnesty

On Energy & Oil: Green energy instead of coal, fracking, and nuclear

On Energy & Oil: Put a price on carbon to send a sustained market signal

When it comes to an economics of recarbonizing the Earth: Transitioning to an economy that keeps its focus squarely on reducing carbon emissions is not only one of the great moral challenges of our time, but it can also open a new era of US innovation based on sustainable infrastructure, responsible resource management and meeting human needs. We need to explore every option to get there. This includes putting a price on carbon to send a sustained market signal and pay for the external damage done by these fuels. Many progressives and environmentalists feel that carbon fees should be mandatory (not market-based) and dedicated to achieving further reductions emissions to drive them down faster AND to protect lower income and people of color who have the least protection against climate impacts. My Administration would be open to all these ideas.

On Energy & Oil: Supports Green New Deal and green jobs program

Under a Williamson administration, we will take a full systems approach. A Green New Deal would provide an overall strategy for how clean energy, sustainable infrastructure and transportation, and a national green jobs program can revitalize our economy and utilize our innovative and human capacity to benefit all our people. While it doesn't cover the whole range of measures we must undertake to reverse global warming, it is an important step, therefore I support it.

On Environment: EPA head shouldn't be from chemical or oil industry

GETTING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY BACK ON TRACK: Every problem can be traced to a lack of devotion to things that matter most, and nowhere is this truer than in our relationship to the earth. As President, I would begin with the appointment of a world-class environmentalist rather than a fossil fuel or chemical company executive (as is now the case) to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, I would fundamentally reverse the current misuse of the EPA, whereby it serves mainly the cause of profit maximization for fossil fuel and chemical companies, and return it to its original mission of protection and advocacy on behalf of our natural environment. The full powers of the executive branch of the US government would be put in service to this effort.

On Families & Children: Maternity/paternity leave; free prenatal care and childcare

As long as there is a dearth of women in positions of political power, this chronic tilting of American priorities toward short-term economic interests as opposed to humanitarian values is understandable. As long as women are basically invisible, children are invisible as well. A Williamson Administration would be not only a victory for women, but it would also be a victory for our children, and for our future as a nation. As president, I would advocate for the following:

On Foreign Policy: Make peace with our neighbors, instead of using brute force

While America has some serious enemies--and it's certainly our responsibility to protect our country and our children--I believe our country's way of dealing with security issues is increasingly obsolete. We cannot simply rely on brute force to rid ourselves of international enemies. In so doing, we overburden our military by asking them to compensate for the work we ourselves are not doing.

The only way to make peace with your neighbors is to make peace with your neighbors. If, over the last 50 years, more people around the world had seen the American flag decal on schools, hospitals, roads and so forth--as opposed to military installations and other material support for regimes in their countries--then we would not have as many international problems as we have today. America's problem is not just how many people in the world hate us. It's also how many people just don't like us anymore, and are therefore willing to go along with those who seek to harm us.

On Government Reform: No voter ID; no politicized gerrymandering

IF I'M ELECTED, MY ADMINISTRATION WILL SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING:

On Government Reform: Establish public financing for federal campaigns

IF I'M ELECTED, MY ADMINISTRATION WILL SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING: A Williamson administration would work assiduously to address the above-mentioned external issues, and I would help the American people connect the dots, understand what has happened, and work in their own communities to save our democracy.

On Gun Control: Ban assault rifles & bump stocks

Our right to bear arms does not come without rules. As president I would support:

On Health Care: Medicare-for-all plus lifestyle and nutrition support

The biggest problem with America's health care system is that it is not a health care system so much as a sickness care system. It reflects an outdated perspective on health & healing, in which far too little attention is given to the actual cultivation of health and prevention of disease. I will robustly support high-quality universal coverage for every American, including a Medicare-for-all model. In addition, my administration would champion the following policy changes:
  • Require our healthcare system to reimburse medical professionals for a broader array of lifestyle and nutrition support, focused on preventing disease and/or addressing root causes.
  • Provide patients with more robust ongoing support from nutritionists, health coaches, therapists and mental health, exercise specialists, and other peripheral lifestyle treatment providers.
  • Fund programs in all our educational systems designed to teach nutrition and lifestyle skills to help cultivate long-term health.

On Health Care: Towns should set up physical activities for community health

We need to develop healthy habits at a community level. Towns and cities can, and should, look collectively at how active their populations are, and institute more ways to increase physical activity through walking paths, bike paths, and community events. The diet of entire cities should be reviewed, as well as ways that communities can contribute to one another's daily health.

On Homeland Security: Make suicide prevention a top priority for veterans & VA

Every day, an average of 20 U.S. veterans commit suicide. We must not stop working until every veteran and service member has access to the best mental health care and community support. I will direct my VA Secretary to make suicide prevention a top priority.

When our service members come home from service, it is critical that they get the support they deserve. As our brave women and men of the military are transitioning out of service and reintegrating back into society, the right support can make all the difference during their transition and in the ensuing months and years. Many veterans don't even know about the variety of services that are available to support them, nor do they know how to take advantage of them. Solving this lack of outreach to veterans will involve coordinating efforts between the military, the veteran's administration, and outside non-profit groups and community centers.

On Immigration: No one calls for open borders; stop scapegoating

Immigrants are not our enemies. I don't know any progressive who is arguing for open borders, but we are arguing for open hearts. This is so important to remember today as immigrants are often viciously scapegoated. Scapegoating immigrants, particularly Mexicans and Central Americans, is a deliberate dehumanization technique. Dehumanizing others has always been the required first step leading toward history's collective atrocities. We must stand up against it now as other generations stood up.

The deliberate attempt by some of our leaders to make Americans fear something so basic to our greatness in the name of our greatness will one day be seen as a dark, aberrational chapter in our nation's history. Those who scapegoat immigrants, like all demagogues throughout history, are demonizing others to increase their own power. The hardening of the American heart is far more dangerous than the softening of our borders.

On Immigration: Full path to citizenship for most undocumented immigrants

I support legislative reforms that includes a full path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who do not have serious criminal background issues. I would also work to reduce the cost of naturalization and increase resources to help people navigate that process more easily.

Children brought into the United States by their parents should not be punished for now being here. I fully support our DACA. Our dreamers represent the best about our future.

My administration would reduce the record number of detainees currently under extended DHS and ICE control. I would work to close private detention centers and family detention centers. There are far more humane options that have been proven to work.

I would speed up our process of allowing asylum seekers to come here. I would work to fund and authorize vast increases in Immigration Judges to move through our backlog of asylum seekers and other related cases.

On Social Security: Raise cap on income & we can avoid privatization

Social Security was created to insure that our seniors can live in dignity without fear of poverty. Workers pay into a fund during their prime years, then get regular payments back when they stop working.

Social Security has worked well for generations to reduce poverty among seniors and the disabled. It is under attack today by Wall Street banks and related financial "service" entities who want to privatize it for no other reason than to tap into another new and huge source of income and bonuses.

To that end, opponents of Social Security have claimed over the last few years that it is running out of money soon. It is true that there could be problems with Social Security funding down the line, but they are quite easily solved by making modest changes, such as raising the cap on income subject to Social Security payroll tax. That simple modification can keep the system solvent indefinitely, without reducing benefits.
